Ward Burton Puts Kasey Kahne In The Wall Wrecks Six Cars
Feb 17, 2007 | 8:35PM | report this

On lap 17 of today's Orbitz 300 NASCAR Busch Series race in Daytona, Florida,  Ward Burton in his No. 27 Kleenex  Ford Fusion wadded up $3,000,000 worth of race cars.  Burton hit Chip Ganassi Racing's and Reed Sorenson's No. 41 Dodge Charger in the rear.  Sorenson was shoved into the No. 9 Dodge of Ray Evernham Racing driven by Kasey Kahne who hit the wall.  This set off  today's "Big One," a crash that ultimately involved six cars.  Kahne was, however, the worst victim of the wreck, as he crashed into the wall head-on.

Ward Burton bump drafts Reed Sorenson before exiting the turn causing Sorenson to hit Kasey Kahne who loses control.

Jamie McMurray and John Andretti were also involved in the incident, which effectively ended their race.  Andretti was able to return to the track to run a few more laps as was Sorenson.  Bobby Hamilton Jr. also was hit on both sides of his No. 25 McDonald's Ford Fusion bearing a paint scheme honoring his father's last Nextel Cup win at Talladega in 2002.  Hamilton lost a lap and led the cars one lap down most of the day but never found himself in position to receive the lucky dog award and get his lap back.

Kahne Immediately after he hit the wall

McMurray finished 42nd and Kahne 41st.  Andretti settled for 39th and Sorenson 38th.  ward Burton was able to continue finishing 31st.  Hamilton finished as the only car one lap down in 24th.

Thanks for the race update. Missed the Busch race by accident literally.
I would imagine we will see a big one in the Cup race too. Hope Kahne was not hurt too bad...

Thanks Roy.

No injuries in the Busch race n, not even any broken ankles. Broke an ankle and missed a race? It's really too bad you missed a race.
