Daytona The Place To Be On Sunday
Jan 20, 2007 | 6:45PM | report this
On Sunday, the second of two test sessions for the NASCAR Busch Series teams, those in odd positions in 2006 owner point standings after July 12, 2006, will begin their first day of testing for their particular teams.   Up to 30 teams represented by nearly 50 drivers will be participating on what will certainly be the busiest day of the overall five days of testing.

The second session is scheduled to include drivers such as J.J. Yeley (No. 1 Miccosukee Resort Chevrolet), who moves to Phoenix Racing in the NASCAR Busch Series to team with Mike Wallace (No. 7 GEICO Chevrolet), also scheduled to participate in the second session. Jon Wood (No. 47 Clorox/Armor All/American Red Cross Ford), Bobby Hamilton Jr. (No. 35 McDonald’s Ford) and David Gilliland (No. 25 Freecreditreport.com Ford) – Hamilton’s Team Rensi Motorsports teammate and the driver who won arguably the most influential race in series history when he did so at Kentucky last year – will also be in attendance.

I honestly can't wait for the NASCAR season to begin. I am first excited to see ESPN's coverage. Also, ever since I went to the Pepsi 400 with my dad, Daytona has always held a special place in my heart. Watching the cars scream around the track...there is just nothing quite like it. Can't wait!

What do you know about this car of tomorrow or whatever it is called? Are they going to be racing it this year?

I'm going to be the first to admit that I'm not a huge NASCAR fan but I do watch when I have some time.

My question is how big do you guys think it is that Toyota is racing in the series now?

Does it make a difference to you?

Looking forward to Toyota being in NASCAR. I don't think they will do too well at first. Kind of like when Dodge came back into NASCAR. There will be a learning curve for them.

The Car of Tommorrow will be run at speedway races this year. I think it will be a good thing. It should take some of the squabling between manufacturers out of the game which I can do without.

Toyota is big, very big. It really bothers traditionalists. Not me. Cars we buy in this country are almost all about 50% domestic and 50% foreign anyway. I ran Ford parts one night and Saginaw parts for foreign cars the next off of the same line in one of my college jobs back in the 80's.

I expect Toyota will do fairly well this year. NASCAR likes a level playing field because it is good for competition and therefore, business. Toyota's list of driver talent is somewhat limited. No dis to Dale Jarrett. He's an Ace. But NASCAR will not allow them to lag behind.

Straighten me out on something. Would you be pulling for Bobby Jr. this year? Who do you think will be there in the end? Great job on putting your blogs together by the way.

Bobby Jr. will be my favorite Busch Driver this year. He is returning to Team Rensi in the 35 McDonalds car. He had his best success with Rensi in the 25 car a few years ago. After that he went to take a crack in what was probably going to be his last full time Nextel Cup opportunity in the Tide Ride.

Bobby Jr. was hoping his dad would be driving the Fastenal 18 truck this year so Bobby Jr. landed this ride before his dad's cancer came back with such a vengeance in November of last year.

I am not aware of any changes being made in Bush regarding the Bushwackers, so unfortunately, it will probably be hard for Bobby to crack the top 10. The opportunity for me to pull for Bobby this year came up when Kenny Wallace announced he will not be Busch racing this year. Last year Kenny struggled really hard to make the top ten only to just fall short mostly as a result of the Bushwackers running so many races.

Thanks for the complements.

When I first was introduced to Nascar in the early eighties, I became a Geoff Bodine fan. I also liked Bill Elliot and Tim Richmond. I could not stand Dale Earnhart as I felt he was an extremely dirty racer.(That'll get some blood pumping.) When Geoff got involved with Tanya Tucker, he couldn't win for anything; I believe she was wearing him out. I kind of lost touch for a while because of my job which required a lot of travel. I then became a Jeff Gordon fan. (Boo, hiss!) I know, I know. Now I can't stand Tony Stewart. As much as I can't stand him, it did suck that with all the wins at the end of the season, he was out. I was interested in the possiblity of Danica joining the fun. I think she would have a better chance in Nascar than Indy. Maybe. Plus, I would enjoy seeing her more and more.

Here's a side comment. I used to work at a restaraunt just down the road from the NH Speedway. It was a small time track then and the owners used to come in and give me a pile of free tickets all the time. Things were not too good. It wasn't long after they hit the big time. I wish I would have stayed in touch and gotten involved. I'd probably be sitting pretty during a race.....ha ha.

I couldn't disagree with you more on anything you said steelerfan. You hate Earnhardt and Stewart and like Gordon? You must bat from the left side.

I always have thought that NASCAR was extremely dangerous, stupid, and boring to watch. However, after 3 years my friend has finally persuaded me to give it a shot. I'll be at the Daytona 500...hopefully it will exceed me expectations.

"When I first was introduced to Nascar in the early eighties, I became a Geoff Bodine fan."

I liked Geoff Bodine too. Because in the 80's he was one of the few that would not take any #### off of Earnhardt. He was a Yankee and he did not care that Dale intimidated most of the other southern guys. Frankly, Dale and Geoff just did not like each other. It made for some great racing.

"I also liked Bill Elliot."

I also liked Bill. Coors sponsored our softball team at Tennessee Tech during intramurals so I cheered for the Coors colors as much as Bill. But damn he was fun to watch back then. Our team was pretty good too. We had a bunch of civil engineers, the school's quarterbacks for a shortstop and were led by a two term Vietnam vet who led tanks into jungles with skulls in the turretts of his tanks.

"I could not stand Dale Earnhart as I felt he was an extremely dirty racer.(That'll get some blood pumping.)"

That's just the truth bro. I hated him because he took the spotlight away from Darrell Waltrip who was my main man back then. Of course that's another Middle Tennessee thing. But Dale turned out to be so nice to Darrell later when he was getting #### on by his owner. Dale let Darrell drive the Penzoil 1 car and it was the last competitive ride Darrell ever had.

I want to thank Falcons and Steeler and the few others that had the courage to still blog with me during the period of time that Lisa and the band of thugs that she had around her harassing me and lying about me and making up things in order to get others to stop blogging with me. I have decided it is better to take a stand against a racist group of people than it is to continue blogging as long as she's on this site. Again, I thank you for your support and you are delightful people.

Bears win, but the Colts are down 15 at the half. Can Peyton and Co rally for multiple Tds and the Colt defense hold?

Let's go Colts!

No problem Dusty:) Good memories 14Falcons. You know in the eighties, Dale Sr. was pushing his car into everyone on the track. In one race he pushed off Bodine and Elliot for the win. While taking his lap, both drivers pulled up on either side of him and I was just waiting for it.....ha ha. Never happened. The last years of Sr.'s career were great and his death was a tragedy. As far as Tony Stewart, I just don't care for his personality. And 98, I lost touch with Nascar for a long time due to my career which required travel. Gordon brought my interest back with his great success and I'm greatful to him for that. Nascar fans are very passionate about who they like and who they hate. But, hate them or not, a successful driver should always be respected. Most hated drivers are the ones that most interfere with a person's particular favorite. I didn't like Dale Sr. and I don't like Tony Stewart, but I respect them for what they brought and bring to the track.

Neither Tony or Jeff are my favorites. But I do not dislike them either. They are definitely top tier drivers. They are in the top five among most popular drivers with Jr. Jimmy and Casey. They both would get a favorable rating from me if it was thumbs up or thumbs down.

They both come from outside the south and outside stock car racing. Many southerners resent that. Too bad, they are missing enjoying some great racing. They have brought new people into the sport (midwesterners, west coasters) and that has made NASCAR a national sport, instead of a regional one, second to only the NFL in popularity in this country.

They are both two-time or more champions. People are jealous of that and resent it. It happens.

Tony is also an IRL champion. Amazing.

And Jeff will likely go to F1 before he retires. That should be fun to watch.
