    You call that a streak?

Saturday, February 24, 2007, 03:30 PM EST [TIGER WODS BYRON NELSON BLOGJA]

    Joe Dimaggio had a streak.

Cal Ripken Jr. had a streak.

Tiger Woods had a great record in a series of hand-picked events, with a few losses that "don't count" along the way.

Noted golf writer Reid Spencer, for one, is glad the sham is over. He was sick of hearing about it every month or so when Tiger decided to play an event. (For the record, Spencer is glad we can get back to watching Tiger win majors ... and we have a hunch that Tiger is too.)

Says Spencer: Had Woods matched Nelson's accomplishment, and I use the word "match" loosely, Tiger's version of 11 straight wins would have required at least five asterisks. His streak was already punctuated with failures to win on the world stage and gaps in his PGA Tour playing schedule that reached more than three months -- as Woods chooses carefully the events and courses he will play.

So what do you think? Was the streak overblown? Was it even a streak? Will he ever make a legit run at Byron Nelson?
