    Striking gold

    The Portland Trail Blazers?!

Yes, the Portland Trail Blazers won the NBA Draft lottery Tuesday despite having just a 5.3% chance to do so.

But the madness didn't stop there. The Seattle Sonics and Atlanta Hawks also made the top three, meaning Memphis, Boston, and Milwaukee all dropped from their projected spots.

We know you've got an opinion, so what do you think? Was there a conspiracy in the works at the lottery? Should Greg Oden or Kevin Durant go No. 1? Does Oden have the heart? Will Durant keep knocking down those 20-footers in the pros? Which future superstar fits best with Brandon Roy and the Blazers? After the top two picks, how will the draft unfold?

    Going to the dogs

Tuesday, May 22, 2007, 11:45 AM EST [General]

Just when you thought it'd be hard to find someone in the NFL to stick up for Michael Vick and his alleged hobby of dog fighting, in steps Clinton Portis.

"It's his property," Portis said. "It's his dog. If that's what he wants to do, do it."

That argument didn't sit too well with Kevin Hench. And even Portis' belated reversal of course wasn't enough to change Hench's assessment that the Redskins running back is pretty much a knucklehead.

    But what do you think?

    Ranking the NFL off-seasons

Wednesday, May 16, 2007, 03:58 PM EST [General]

After three months of high-profile coaching changes, general manager switches, scouting combines, free-agent signings, cuts, waiver wire pickups, contract negotiations, franchise tags, draft stock rises, draft stock slips, trades, franchise tags, players who hate their franchise tags, and a whole lot of Brady Quinn talk -- the busiest time of the 2007 off-season is finally behind us.

While there are certainly some loose ends still waiting to be tied up (ie. Trent Green, Lance Briggs, and Keyshawn's future), it's time to rank the 2007 NFL off-seasons. 32 teams, 32 slots. Where'd your team finish up? Let's find out.

Do you agree with the rankings?

    The letter of the law

Tuesday, May 15, 2007, 05:12 PM EST [General]

    Well, now we know.

The NBA is going by the whole letter of the law thing. Which is why Amare Stoudemire and Boris Diaw will be serving a one-game suspension for leaving the bench during an altercation in Game 4 of the Suns-Spurs series.

Sure, Robert Horry got tagged for two games for the hip check on Steve Nash that started the whole thing. But you've got to figure the Suns are going to miss Stoudemire and Diaw a whole lot more than the Spurs will miss Cheap Shot Rob.

So what are your thoughts on the suspensions? Were the NBA's hands tied by the rule? Or should David Stern have put the integrity of this series above the letter of the law?

    Suspensions and disbelief

Tuesday, May 15, 2007, 03:39 PM EST [General]

To suspend or not to suspend, that is the question.

We've got to figure Robert Horry is going to be sitting for at least a game after hip-checking Steve Nash into the boards in the final moments of Monday night's Game 4.

As to who else will be disciplined in the wake of the ensuing chaos, well that's anyone's guess.

Was Amare Stoudemire merely trying to check into the game, or was he going onto the court to join the fracas? And if Stoudemire and teammate Boris Diaw get tagged, does that mean Tim Duncan and Bruce Bowen need to be suspended as well for a similar infraction that took place earlier in the game and went almost unnoticed?

Is it more important for David Stern to insist that the rule be interpreted according to the letter of the law? Or would such an interpretation have too great an impact on what is likely to be the most entertaining series of the entire postseason?
