Ok, it has been a scary friday for my teams.
First, I knew Winthrop was good, but I didn't think they'd beat my beloved Irish!!! I mean, the Irish were up 15th in the polls at one time!!! Talk about an upset!!! I am scared about this game because of the way that Winthrop dominated ND throughout MOST of the game. Yes, ND was leading at times, but Winthrop won by 10!!! If I knew ND was going to lose, I would at least expect it to be close!!! Well, when I found out that they were out of it, I turned my attention to Illinois.
Ok, Illinois overall dominated the boards, and they did very well on defense. You think that they could win with these things going with them, but no. TURNOVERS TURNOVERS TURNOVERS. The Illini had a total of 14 turnovers throughtout the game. Not too bad, but could be better. Virginia Tech had only 3. Illinois needed to create more turnovers on defense. They had everything going for them. They were up by 13 at one point. And then the drought. The Illini went on a streak where they had no FG's in 10 minutes. The Illini have also struggled with free throws throughout the season, and today was the same story, including 2 missed free throws at the end of the game, which would have created a tie ballgame.
Well, a very dissapointing day for me. I can still root for Southern Illinois, but it's not like I'm a big fan of theirs. But go SIU. Time to turn the focus to baseball season. We'll see how the Cubs do. Hopefully it's not another tearful season. For now I'm rooting for SIU and, I guess I'll root for any BIG TEN teams, since, even though ND is in the BIG EAST, I'm a loyal BIG TEN fan.
