77% of U OF I Alumni are for the Chief.

 People in the state of Illinois love Chief Illiniwek. To many people he's more than a mascot. He's different than some guy dressed up as a badger or some guy dressed up as a "buckeye." He's a preformer who preforms at half-time and pumps up the crowd. He's a symbol to the history to the U OF I and the state of Illinois. He is not racist. He is exciting and he is well loved and now he's gone.
