    SEC dominates national sports scene

Thursday, May 24, 2007, 03:26 PM EST [SEC]

    Here I go again JAMF's.

    SEC dominates national sports scene.

    2006-07 national championships:

Football (Florida), men's basketball (Florida), women's basketball (Tennessee), gymnastics (Georgia)

    More on the Horizon?

Strong cases for national championships could be made in the coming weeks by Tennessee and LSU in Softball, and Vanderbilt in Baseball.

    Tops in attendance:

The conference ranked no.1 in attendance with more than 6.5 million fans watching football games last season

    Leading the pack:

Five of the top ten schools in attendance belonged to the SEC (No. 3 Tennessee, No. 5 Georgia, No. 6 LSU, No. 7 Alabama, and No. 9 Florida)

    Drafts:

The SEC has been leading the way in overall number players being selected in the NFL draft and free agent signings. The SEC has had more players drafted in the NBA in the past 10-years than any other conference.

    Revenue from Football:

SEC schools football revenue (excluding TV contracts, donors and Booster funds) for 2005 (latest figures) range from $12,741, 470 at Mississippi State to $58,661,538 at Georgia.

According to the leading recruiting sites " the coaches are too good. The recruiting is too good. And anytime you put good recruiting and good player with good coaches it makes for good games. That's what you have throughout the league."

The SEC has been a major player in college baseball for the last two decades. LSU won five national championships in the 1990's. Georgia also won a title during that decade and SEC teams have been in contention in the super regionals and championships almost every year.

"I think what you are going to see in the SEC, for the rest of the time, be the leader in those three sports (football, basketball, and baseball) in particular. If you want to coach in the league, you're going to compete against the best"
