    Rich, Rich, Rich

Thursday, October 5, 2006, 08:40 AM EST [College Football, Heisman]

It seems that Mr. Criminology keeps posting the same old usual suspect for the Heisman race. But of all the QB's in the top 10 he does not list the number 1 quarterback statistically in the NCAA. Why Rich Why? Maybe it's because the university does not bow down to blow hards or is tired of retreads and has-beens that write the same fluff. I don't know the answer of why Mr. Criminysakes would neglect this person but would rate the running back from northern Illinois. Let's see who has the power house northern Illinois played this year. Let's list all the majors they have dressed for and taken the field of play.

That's right they haven't. So this just supports the proposition on the table that states the Heisman is a popularity contest among sports writers. In old the days it was based on pure talent but today it's based on the GQ factor. Do some of the mentions deserve? Maybe, but please the running back from northern Illinois may be feel good and his mom is happy to see her sons name in print as any parent would be unless of course you're Maurice "criminal" Clarett but then again maybe she is thrilled to still her son being mentioned. I don't know but what I do know is that when you have the best QB in the NCAA not even in the top 10 it tells you something about the whole process. I'm sorry to use the word "process" that would make it a legitimate event so from here on out we'll call it the "American Heisman." Lets see if we can get some real old timers to be judges and recall the days when Jim Taylor, Jim Brown, Gale Sayers use to just run over you or past you before you knew what the breeze was...

So lets mention those that are deserving lets broaden the spectrum and see some of those DB's, linebackers, O-line, D-line or maybe that blocking back that makes the running back look good. I have no problem with listing people let's be more inclusive and take a serious look at stats, which people have played and maybe how that player affects the field of play. If you're an above average running back playing in a talent poor conference you better be putting up good numbers  so that's what we call a push. But if you are lets say a Brett Favre talent type QB playing for a team like Southern Mississippi and go and beat a major school that is in the national title hunt every year and you put up more than respectable numbers I want to see that guy listed. I want to see the DB listed that is having to be game planned for. The coaches know who these people are ask them. It's a long season so let's not take the easy way out and just list "my favorite players." Matter of fact lets change it to "Rich Cirminiello American Heisman" Sunday on FOX....
