Proper football returns to us the weekend around the world and, more importantly, at Ewood Park as the Blackburn Rovers take on the Wanderers of Wolverhampton in the fourth league game of the season.

I’ll be honest here; this is a must win game. After this game we have league games against Everton and Villa, with a league cup game v Notts Forrest thrown in between those games.

Then after Villa and the retrn of big Brad and Stephen Warnock, we have Le Arse, Chelski, The B@stards, and ManUre.

This is a must win game. Read the rest of this entry »

So its the Bogey side. Thee bogey side. There’s no denying it. West Ham seem to be the one side we can never get the 3 points from. We all remember the Tevez affair. I still remember how I felt that day. Personally, I feel that example alone sums up my feelings about playing West Ham. Hell, it took a Andrews wonder goal to draw level last season. They always seem to have our number.

But enough with this witchcraft bogey side. I think we have a chance come Saturday. Hell, more than a chance, I think we’ll walk away from this one with all three points. Read the rest of this entry »

So the big news today is Stephen Warnock is now a member of Aston Villa. On the replacement side, as soon as the door was hitting Warnock’s rear, a Mr. Pascal Chimbonda has moved in. A little case of the old switcheroo, and I’m not too upset. Here’s why… Read the rest of this entry »

Well, that little confusion I had in yesterday’s blog has seemingly been cleared up. At work today I got a twitter alert from @OneRovers saying that our boy Nikola aquired his work permit, and they did not lie. Upon getting home today the article on the Offish site was up and, wallah, we have a new striker!
(Shamless plug: follow The Blackburn Offside on Twitter by clicking here. And facebook here!)

So what does this mean for our striker force?

It means we have a ton of strikers again. Paul Gallagher, Benni Mac, Jason Robers, Di Santo, Dioufy, and now Niko. I believe we’ll see a good healthy mix of Benni, Jason, Di Santo and Niko with Diouf probably playing on the right wing as a RM.

So what’s everyone’s take on this new boy? Yay or Nay? And how

Excited for the league to start this weekend? Can’t wait to sit down and turn on your Rovers, after waking up early to make sure you catch them on TV? Well, you wont be turning on Fox Soccer Channel, at least not till after September.

Setanta isn’t showing us much love either, with only 2 matches being shown in August, and only one of those 2 is live. To quote the wise words of Mr. Rodney Dangerfield, “I get no respect!”

However, a new option has emerged. Just a few days ago, The Offside’s very own Daryl wrote a piece talking about ESPN showing 2 premier league matches a week on ESPN2. Read that blog here. That would be exciting stuff indeed, and would offer more chances to watch our Rovers. Read the rest of this entry »

With Russian Pavel Pogrebnyak out of the running and all leads looking dead, a surprise candidate has emerged out of the blue.

21 year old Croatian International Nikola Kalinic is the leading contender to be signed at Ewood Park now. Reports coming from The Mirror and the Lancashire Telegraph have both confirmed the striker talking to Rovers today, with Rovers looking to steal the deal from Portsmouth, who couldn’t come up with the transfer money Hajduk Split wanted in the first installment. So what’s the CV of this Kalinic guy? Read the rest of this entry »

As the season’s start creeps quicker and quicker, we have still not found that striker (well two strikers) we need to sign to replace RSC and Matty Derbs, and the situation is starting to turn from “when we will get one?” to “will we get one?”

We’ve looked at a ton of strikers and have graced the football hot sheets’ back pages many times this summer. Lets take a look at some of the strikers we’ve been linked to this summer shall we….. Read the rest of this entry »

So some of you might not know the saga and struggle the Rovers went through to bring this promising youngster to England, so here’s the short and short of it…

In this Andy Cryer piece on the Rover Reserves 2-0 win over Leigh Genesis, you can read about how he Hoilett scored the two goals for Rovers. This promising youngster set to light up Ewood this season was almost not to be due to some work permit restrictions though, but heres what happened. Read the rest of this entry »
