Hello to everyone,
hope you are all doing well and getting ready for the holidays because over in England we are very ready for it. Not sure if it is very big in the U.S but in England everyone goes mad for christmas. The shops start selling decorations in November and the radio stations start playing christmas songs also which i think is so OTT(over the top) not that i am being a scrooge or anything its just that doing the whole christmas thing in Novmeber is a bit early for me.
But i am now ready for it. In my house i have my christmas tree up - which looks great if i do not say so myself, various decs are up around the house, my two dogs have their head bands ready to wear so when the christmas carol singers knock the door the two dogs look like two little rain dears....... hahaha only kidding, though i really should look for some christmas t shirts for them to wear so they can get into the grove.
ok so i think that is enough about christmas, for now anyway. I wanted to fill you all in on what this Brit as my Boston teammates call me has been up to in the off season.
well for the last 4 years, this is the 1st time i have ever had any down time and time to chill out, so i really did love my time off.
you may have read in a previous blog that after our very successful European championship where the England team got our 1st ever medal (silver - not the gold one quite yet) but anyway i took a very much needed holiday to Kenya for a safari. i will not tell you the in's and out of it ,because i do not want to bore you all if you did read it, but my word it was amazing and glad i chose to do somthing different instead of just the beach hoildays i am used to.
it was also my birthday a couple weeks later when i got back from Holiday, and i must admit i got a very very nice present! to my total surprise i was whisked away on a plane..... not the private jet that you see Julia Roberts fly away on in pretty women when she gets taken to see a ballerina show, but my plane was near enough like that (well in my eyes it was,ha). so i was whisked away by surprise to BARCELONA!!! i have been to spain a number of times but never to Barcelona, and never to be a guest of barcelona football club. so there i was watching barcalona play their champions league match in top notch seats in one of the most amazing citys and amazing football stadiums ever....WOW i know i am a very lucky girl.
But get this barcalona have not last at the camp NOU in the last 55 matches they have played there...... but yep you guessed it, of all the matches and all the nights they decide to lose the night i am there,LOL. oh well to see players like Messi,Henry, Xavi, Iniesta, Puyol and David Alves live was amazing. 3 of these players are up for FIFA world player of the year that tells you how speacial these players are.
so after my lovely time off, it was time to get back to business. i had to get back in top shape and get my mind back on the job as i had National team world cup qualifiers coming up for England. Being a national team player i am lucky to be able to access trainers and gym facilities for elite athletes based around the country. so i have a strength and conditioning coach who i see 3x a week who makes sure i have all my strength and power needs taken care of. aswell as seeing him i am also back training with my old team Arsenal ladies. i have been going to watch them play also and it does feel weird seeing someone else in my old shirt number and me not out there with them. but hey when players move on so does the team.
i do think it is amazing though that come the start of the next season there could be 6 of my old Arsenal team mates playing in the WPS, maybe if i write to Tanya Antonucci i could suggest that the All Star match be against Arsenal next year, that would be a story!
so like i mentioned we had two WCQ(world cup qualifier) in November which we won, the 1st one against Malta we won 8 0(i no i no, 8 0 i hear you say....yep its true) the 2nd we won against Turkey 3 - 0. this game i managed to get on the score sheet which was great because i have not scored since i scored my goal for Boston in the WPS, I am a full back that likes to score goals so for me this was a long goal drought ,ha. i now have 9 goals for England which i want to carry on improving... i dont want much do i,ha
Before i come back to Boston and the WPS starts i still have a jam packed programme. National team camp january, the Cyprus cup in Feburay and 2 more WCQ... wow i best stop typing and get back training!
which leads me to lay down my challange, hehehehe. Tony challenged me and Heather Mitts to score goals last season and to be honest we didnt do the best. At least i managed to score 1 and well.... Mittsay we will leave it at the fact that you were playing on the left side all season,LOL. so i thought Mittsay if you are reading this we can create some friendily rivalry/Banter which will most probably already be there between Boston and Philly and see which one of us right backs will be top scorer in WPS 2010..... everyone place your bets now! (if you are not aware me and Heather Mitts are actually real good friends so there is not one bit of rivalry between us - love you mittsay,ha).
As throughout the leauge there has been lots of player movment etc and Boston has been no different. so far we have brought in Tiffeny weimer and a fellow Puma athlete Lelise Osbourne. i am delighted to have also resigned my Puma sponsorship deal and am looking forward to working closely with Leslie in promoting Puma and all that they are doing for womens soccer and the WPS. Lelise is a great player who i remember playing against in the WC2007, she did a great job for her team of marking kelly Smith out the game and allowing the US to go on and win. she is the type of player that i describe as that sometime's all their hard work goes unnoticed by others, but by her team mates they know how highly she is valued on the pitch because she does the hard work so others can shine around her. so im glad we now have her, WELCOME!
ok i think as always i have waffled on enough - all that is left to say is WELL DONE to the 3 WPS players up for Fifa player of the year (come on Kelly!!!!,ha only messin!) may the best women win!!!!
have a happy holiday to you all, see you soon.
