    Goal Celebrations

    Friday, August 6, 2010, 7:32 PM [Soccer]

Hello all.... its been a long time. I had to leave my personal blog behind to guest blog for another site durring the world cup, but you have me back for good now,ha.

so yano what i am just going to jump straight in there and blog what is on my mind this time.
I had a really INTERESTING conversation last week and it really got me thinking. It got me thinking that i do not think that i have ever heard others people perceptions on this topic other then my own and and maybe i need to look at the other side of things before coming to my conclusion?
When i had this conversation, to say it really took me by surprise would be an understatement, but i do like a good old fasion debate and this was a good one!
I hope that the person involved in this conversation does not mind but i wanted to share it with everyone just to get different peoples opinions etc and open it up for debate (i will try not to use no names, but i can not promise that, lol)

As you may guess by the title on the blog the convo i had was about Goal celebrations and it went a little somthing like this.
Cast yourself back a couple of years to 2007, the place china, the occasion, the womens world cup, England v Japan 1st group game, England womens 1st appearance in a world cup for 12 years.

So now you have all that in your mind here is the rest of the story. A certain someone (kelly Smith... opps did i mention a name, shame on me) receives a ball just inside the penataly area, spins one defender and slots the ball in the back of the net. she pulls the game back to 1 - 1 and score's her 1st goal in a world cup final. The main part of the converstaion, yep you guessed it... her goal celebration (check out the link to se for yourself)

www.youtube.com/watch?v=hd_tfAJwvNs  or here is a picture of the celebration?

so what do we think of this celebration? kissing her boot after she scored??
well it seems that 'some' deemed this celebration as arrogant! kelly smith arrogant, really wow. Is this what a goal celebration says about someone? If you kiss your boot you are arrogant.... well unles you are lucky enough to meet or play on the same team as kelly and find out she far from it, you would have always branded her as an arrogant person on this 1st impression by what you saw on the TV......really, is this what we do?
As you may tell i was VERY SURPRISED by this and went on to pursue the conversation more.

This persons belief and answers to my questions were. The celebration was all about her, it was not about the team, basically it was "LOOK AT ME, LOOK AT ME" LOOK AT THE PERSON IN THE BOOTS. The team however did Celebrate with Kelly and did not think the same thing?
but like i said i am trying to see things on both sides here... After the game, Hope Powell our england manager took to the press and said the following statment
I didn’t like it at all,” she said of Smith’s celebration. “I thought it was disrespectful. She won’t be doing it again. She’s a player who will be targeted by defenders and there’s enough attention on her anyway, so she doesn’t need to be drawing any more.

We the boston breakers played FC Gold Pride last week they won the game 2-1, marta scored the 2nd and proceeded to wait for her team to run over and then pretend that she was bowling and her team mates were the pins, she boweled her pretend ball and her teammates fell to the floor. the crowd thought this was fuuny and laughed! was this disrepectful to do this on our field?
The same quote from Hope powell used above can be said of this celebration and marta right. Marta more then anyone has enough attention on her, should she be doing this?
Me.... i think fair play to you,we should have done more as a team to deny her scoring, but we did not. Did it make me mad and want to get the ball and score... "Hell yeah" of course! but did i not want to do this when the game was 1 - 1 anyway or 0 - 0. Is this not all part and parcel of the game. i hope we score and do a well thought celebration when we play them next.... why not,lol

The converstaion went on.......and basically came to this. This person does not believe in goal celebrations, basically you should get the ball from the net and resume play as quickly as possible and celebrate after the 90 mintues of play is up?
Me I strongly disagree. Why because i think how boring not to celebrate a goal, Me i want to show passion, i want to show how much scoring for my team means. Why did we start playing the sport in the 1st place, TO HAVE FUN, to express ourselves. How do you win games.... You have to score goals, soooooo celebrate them.
The conversation then went on to other sports aswell..... when you see basketball players bang there chest after they score a basket or bang the floor (punch the floor) is this because they are arrogant? (well i sure do not think so). i see a player showing passion or trying to get them self pumped up and stay in the zone, or maybe geting rid of frustration.

When i was younger, i remember when i would watch games on TV and see celebrations, it would be that, that i would be trying to replicate in the school playground the next day.
Klinsman goal celebration....come on how many times have we seen that been done .The German's trademark goal celebration, the one that's been mimicked by millions...usually involving a dirty big puddle or a great deal of mud! Watch the link to see

we all seen Usian Bolts now famous celebration after he wins a race? i have seen this celebration replicated so many times in different sports its untrue. my point also being, its just about having some fun and being able to smile.
if i score and do Usian bolts celebration... i am not being arrogant, i do not think i am faster then everyone on the pitch and look at me im special, i just like seeing usian bolt and that confidence he has and his relaxed nature and having fun.

what about from a Fans point of view, is this not another way that we can identify with players.... I dunno?

here are some clips for you to decide for you self and tell me what you think?

At the end of the day what you believe in is what you belive in, but a goal celebration could be because of the occasion, how about the expectation, what if like our England team in the 2007 WC everyone had wrote our team off, we was a team there to make the numbers up, is what other teams had said. Here is a quote what the German team said about us
Ariane Hingst, the defender, said: “In Kelly Smith England have a player we’ll have to keep an eye on, but we have 11 players that England will have to watch out for. If we hit top form, then England won’t have a chance against us.”,
wow!! really... now something like this makes me want to score and do a goal celebration, lol. Seems like we did have a chance however...the score line ended 0-0.
like i said before the celebration could be pure passion! or to finish this off.... how about the meaning behind the goal to the person or to the team?

Either way.... just so this is not all one sided, im trying to be diplomatic here.... could it then be a coincidence, that as a team you are more likely to concede a goal, straight after you have just scored??

so this is all i have for you just know..... im off to work on my celebration, the Breaker girls will tell you, that i can not help but do the Drogba celebration, even when i score a goal in training i will do this, it basically involves arm jolts wide open while running, its very infectious and i even have some of the other girls doing it now,lol

untill next time, your England boston breaker!
Ps it seems this goal celebration just may have made it into the top 10 now... go iceland, lol

    communication breakdown!

    Tuesday, May 18, 2010, 2:38 PM [General]

Hi all, sorry it has been so long,

I come to you this time from my hotel room in Malta where i await my roommate Karen carney who is having a nightmare journey getting here thanks to our nice friend that keeps visiting England and ruining many of thousands of peoples travels plans... the volcano ash.... Buma!!!

well let me start with some geography.... not my favorite subject but it seems that i may be a little better at it than my American teammates. Not one of them knew where Malta was or that is was even a country. They didnt know what the hell i was talking about when i told them....Malta, we are playing Malta in Malta, lol. who is that, where is that??

I remember having the same thing happen last year when Arod had asked me where i had just come from and i told her we had a football tournament in Cyprus, she burst out laughing and told me i was making up the country, lol.

Is it because America is so huge that no one needs to know where anything else is because its hard enough trying to remember all the states in your own land, or the fact that it only takes 3 1/2 hours to get to Malta from England and in that time u would only be half way from Boston to LA......WOW.

But to be Frank and honest with you all, if you ask Kelly smith were Malta is she will struggle to tell you this also hahaha...... it is near Italy was the easiest way to explain our destination for our WWQ game this week.

So keeping on the subject of me and my teammates this year.......... i am having a real BIG problem......... a communication problem. It is like i have come back to the team this year and everyone in boston seems to think i am talking Alien or something. I will tell ya, that is some of the looks that go along with when i speak also..... WHAT HAS HAPPENED!

just to give you all an example, i went to the Boston Burins game (i am not bragging 1 bit, lol) playoff hockey game the other week, i was with Leslie Osbourne (who's new nickname is Lester, which she loves me for given her it, or bringing it to life,ha),kelly smith, our friend from England and yep myself, so we pull into the parking garage, i wind down the window to speak to the parking car man person(ha)... 'hello' i say... is it $25 to park, the man looks at me, his eyebrows frown and i get no response.... 'did he hear me?' 'excuse me... is it $25 to park? i get the same expression from the man, with a shake of his head.... Lester(leslie osbourne) is wetting herself laughing at me.... she leans over, pokes her head out the window and says 'is it $25 to park?, the man immediately replays with yes mamm go right ahead and park and he starts to laugh too................errrrrrrrr excuse me, but i think i asked the exact same thing, lol!

one more example..... in the airport i go to get a protein shake, there is a lady and a young man behind the counter. The lady looks at me and says...'can i help you mamm.......' yes, can i get the number 2 strawberry something shake with a protein boost.....

well that was it, the young man who was standing behind her walked away bursting out laughing and the women serving me was doing everything she could to not LOL, but the smile on her face was about to explode.... wow how to make some 1 paranoid.... i think its lucky that im a laid back care free kinda girl.... 'are you both laughing at me' i asked the lady, which at this point she did LOL, sorry mamm but we just did not expect you to talk like that!

erm like what???... i swear to you Fabs(brazil), laura del rio(spain) or kelly for a matter of fact do not get this treatment...... what language i am speaking i do not know, hahahaha, this happens everyday in training also, i say something and my teammates just laugh or look at me like im crazy........ well guys im glad i give you something to laugh at everyday, i know my role,haha.... tony always tells us we need to know our role..... well tony.... here's mine :0)

ok what else do i have for you..... NOT MUCH! Messing. i have been a bit sport mad this month which is not a bad thing because i love watching sport, but as you already know i went to watch the Burins ice hockey game - which i think is my new fav sport to go watch in Boston, beside coming to watch a breakers game of course! when Heather mitts came to town with her new team philly, she took me/kel and the new boston breaker legend Angla Hucles to see the red soxs play... mittsay has all the good hook ups. and to top the month off i went to watch the Revs play (boston mens soccer team). that game did not go to well for them, they got a player red carded after 20mins.... downhill from there really,ha.

oh i have to talk a little bit about Lauren chain chain chain (cheney), i love anything to do with dance, watching it, doing it, LOVE IT... well my new team mate cheney has some move's.... she can throw some shapes, as we would say in England! Lilly being the hip mum she is, still staying in with all the latest trends so she can teach baby sid....cheney will all the up to date dance moves is proceeding to teach Lil in our locker room how to do the dance the 'jerk'...... now this is not your average '2 step' dance shimmy to the left shimmy to the right, this dance takes some real coordination........ and folks..... LIL HAS THE JERK GOING ON.LOL!

    www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUvDUfDeDh0&NR=1

please watch the clip just incase you have never seen this dance move.... then you can try and picture your all American kristine Lilly, most capped men or women's player in USA history...... dancing the jerk!!!! LOVE IT!!!!!! our locker room is just full of laughter when this is going on. when we win our 1st home game of the season i will get LIL and Cheney to do this dance for all you well de-severed hard core breakers fans,hahah...... so you best show up June 5th Harvard stadium!

well guys and girls, i have not talked much about our games so far this season, we have 1win, 3ties, 2 loses.....so we have 6 points so far...NOT GOOD! but ya no what, the season is long, we are still very much in it, and know that this breakers team will do everything they can to find a way to WIN!!!!we will get better, we want to get better and it is all going to click very soon. so our next game is v Sky blue away and this is a big big game for us, and we all need to stand up and be counted for.... and we will do just that.

oh how exciting that the world cup is just around the corner, i can not wait for the KO, especially the USA v England game, haha

so i think thats just about it from me this time,

hope you are all well, remember to keep smiling and the world will smile with you.....sometimes,lol

your Boston breaker Alex (director) Scott

    'Back in the Game'

    Tuesday, April 13, 2010, 6:15 PM [General]

wow.... hold on why i just catch my breathe! what an opening weekend of WPS. For me as a player, i have been waiting what seems like forever for the season to start, and now its like, ok 1 game down, prepare, back into training and get ready for game 2... and im like wow.... we are truly and fully back into the swing of things.....LOVE IT.

So as i am talking about the WPS, i think it would be rude of me not to talk about our opening game in Washington right? (sorry any washington fans reading this, but i do have a smile on my face right now :0).

If you dont know, you should really know, lol Boston won the 1st game of their (our season) 2 - 1...rock on! this is a totally different feeling to last year. When we played our 1st game against FC Gold pride and we lost to the same score-line - that was a bum feeling and im glad not to feel that again.

How would i sum up our 1st game....UMMMMM - i would say a great team effort. We had good defending through all the units which makes the back four's (back 5 sorry keepers) job so much easier when your front players are winning the ball back high up the field. We had great debuts from Lauren Cheney who not only got a goal, but her all round play like holding the ball up and bringing others into play was great. Ore midfield was solid and the back line very much limited Abby's play through the game which is always major because she is a big time player. Then you have like a dream story..... last year this story was Maggie Tomecka, and it seems this year its going to go to Ashley Phillips - heres the story in short.

Ash as we no her, was our developmental keeper last season, she did not travel on any away trips with the team and did not get any playing time throughout the whole season - how do you stay mentally tough and find a way to keep going i hear you say. Well this is were Ash's story gets better. She was determined for the same thing not to happen again this season. She spent the whole off season working her butt off came back into pre season with a big point to prove, and oh boy she proved it. Every player has to earn the spot on the team, and thats what she did, so not only was this Ash's 1st road trip with the team it was her 1st WPS game and it was her 1st BIG time performance. She was very commanding and made some vital decisions and was aggressive coming off her line. I love stories like this, because i know just like any other player who is not a 1st choice starter how hard this can be week after week. but just like Ashley has shown... hard work is priceless and if you want something bad enough you just got to reach out and grab it......... i salute you Ashley Phillips, lol.

Ok not to get carried away and all that, because you do not win a league playing 1 game (so some1 told me,ha). There were lots we did well and lots to work on, and thats why this week is so big for us as a team. We need to try and iron out some creases and try to look even prettier come our opening home opener at Harvard stadium sunday!

Im so excited and cannot wait for sunday to arrive, playing at Harvard in front of your home fans is always great. I know this game is going to have an even bigger bite to it as well. We all know that Philly have ex Boston players who for sure are gonna give it everything and more to make sure they score a goal past us.... could i be talking about A-rod by any chance,ha.

As well as A ROD, we are welcoming back Heather Mitts who was a big player for us. Also we have Gina and Kat who was with us all through pre season, oh i just nearly forgot about KK, she also used to play for the breakers in the WUSA right? wow, this game is going to be HUGE. i am getting little butterflies thinking about it (geek, i know!!)

Well its going to be a great game with a great atmosphere.... can i try and sell this game anymore,hahaha..

I like it when our fans sing songs through the game it makes me feel like i am back in England at a EPL match. The fans are so involved in England, and i feel when we play at home our fans are the best at getting involved and making it feel like a real soccer atmosphere.... Boston Rocks!

What have i got to fill you guys in on..... We won our 2 national team World Cup Qualifiers against Spain and Austria which leaves us top of our group on goal difference at the moment, so the World Cup in Germany next year looks even closer now, but we still have games to play so we are not there yet.

Oh i have to tell you about the singing stewardess that we came across on route to Washington. As you may remember from last's years blogs, i am the worst flyer and poo my pants every time. We board our southwest plane and i am sitting there terrified....the air stewardess comes on the intercom to explain the safety procedures.... well from the 1st moment this lady had my attention!!! you either would find this lady VERY FUNNY or VERY ANNOYING depending what mood you are in of course. so she started of by saying that "even if you are not bothered or just plain rude, try to look like you are bothered by listening to the safety brief because if this planes goes down, i will not be saving you, save your self' enjoy your flight to.... where are we going again" really though, she did not even know where we was going, hahaha. we then take off, the plane is quite.... then the intercom comes back on (should i be scared....Nope) 'bada boom bada bing, lets the fun times begin'.... i look over to kelly who is looking at me, we are like what the heck.... then this happens (please watch the link)... if the link is not coming up, please go to youtube and type in Lynda southwest

    www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpbs5ucTKWI

hahahahahahaha, yes our air stewardess is singing to us.......ARE YOU SURE!!!!! is this for real??? yep it sure is, well i will tell you 1 thing, i wish i had more airplanes rides like this, because it totally took my mind of being scared. and just as we landed the intercom comes on 1 last time....'thank you for flying southwest i am linda with a Y (LYNDA) and you can find me on YouTube your singing stewardess.

Lauren Cheney at this point turns to me and kelly and says we are so not claiming her, meaning she is a mad American, but wow if she was English i would so claim her! so i thought i would share her with you all, so you can make up your mind...ENJOY,lol.

I was back to my directing ways over the weekend also getting some footage of the team which may appear on the Boston site soon, so stay tuned. We got Leslie and Jordan doing their other day jobs they were cat walk queens in the airport after their runway debuts this week in a real fashion show, We Pranked Kelly Smith which was so funny.... we replaced her cookies that she had wrapped up in a napkin looking forward to eating them later that night with two pieces of grilled chicken, hahaha, how funny, When she opened her napkin to eat her lovely cookies she found chicken!!! hahaha, as Ashton kutcher would say....YOU GOT PUNKED!!! and i got some post match interviews.

I think the punk thing should defo be an ongoing thing throughout the season....What do you think???

I think im all but done here folks. I will be back soon to fill you in about all the going ons. I am teaching lilly how to talk cockney rhyming slang as we speak (if you do not know what this is, look it up and get back to me with some, this could be funny) so i will let you know how that is going.

My guitar is now here with me in Boston so my lessons will be starting again soon, and just because i am a great teammate i think me and kel are going to have spanish lessons once a week, so by the end of the season we can hopefully string a sentence together and speak with Laura Del Rio... is this wishful thinking??? We shall see.

    Its been real......

Your England Boston Breaker  Alex Scott x

PS. Congrats to Katie and Lianne on making their WPS debuts (My England national teamies).... Lianne we hope to rain on your parade this weekend at harvard, hahaha
