Alejandro Segundo Castillo - Red Star

Castillo: "Nothing Accidental About My Goals!"
    13.11.2006

    News from Red Star Web

A conversation with Alejandro Segundo Castillo

Among those who saw Red Star defeat Smederevo yesterday there is consensus that Alejandro Segundo Castillo was the MVP of the match. The Ecuadorian international first scored the equalizer for our team and then assisted Djokic in putting Red Star ahead for good.

With already three goals to his name, we asked Castillo which one was his favourite?

"The goal against OFK Beograd was certainly the most significant of the three and therefore it's my favourite. It was the game winner in one of the derby fixtures of the first part of the season. Yesterday's goal against Smederevo was also important in a way - it leveled the score and pulled us back into the match shortly after the opponent had gone ahead, 1:0. The goal was certainly no fluke because I have always been good with headers and, besides, the coach is urging me to go forward  and participate in the attack as often as possible", Castillo explained with glee.

    Castillo commented yesterday's match:

"It was a very tough game against a very good Smederevo team. The match held additional importance for us as we were coming from a loss against Vozdovac in the previous round. We managed to win nevertheless and extend our lead in the standings".

Many observers are saying that Red Star's current game is full of oscillations and they point to the two very different periods against Smederevo as only the latest evidence of this. The Ecuadorian says that his team's game is still a work in progress and calls for patience.

"I think that many people fail to comprehend the simple fact that the team had gone through a drastic makeover since just before the start of the season. You cannot build a new team overnight and all the while you are playing against opponents who are especially motivated against Red Star. At times we are struggling to find our own motive, but the most important thing is being able to stay focused through the entire 90 minutes. Playing for a team like Red Star you are always expected to give your maximum which is what all of us are trying to do", were the parting words from Castillo in whom Red Star fans see their most valuable acquisition of the summer transfer period.

    Ajax 0 - PSV 1

    News from PSV Web Page

PSV enjoyed a hard-fought 1-0 win over rivals Ajax in the Amsterdam ArenA on Sunday afternoon. A goal scored by Timmy Simons on 63 minutes sealed victory, which helped them leapfrog Ajax at the top of the Eredivisie table in Holland. PSV were down to ten men for the final twenty minutes.

Timmy Simons scored another crucial, winning goal, just like he did during the Champions League clash with Galatasaray. PSV had to survive twenty minutes of pressure in the closing stages, after Edison Mendez was forced to make an early exit, following a second yellow card. PSV managed to hold on and bagged all three points, so they now lead the standings with 31 points, twelve games into the season.

Ajax created most danger in the first period in the sold-out, roof-covered Amsterdam ArenA. The hosts earned some opportunities from set pieces, but PSV's compact defence was as good as ever, as Perez and Gabri produced shots on target. Ajax took lots of initiatives, but did not take any undue risks, either. PSV came out on the counter attack, hoping to take advantage from the pace of their two strikers Kon
