I don't pretend to know much about rugby. In fact, almost everything I know about the sport basically boils down to the following two items:
1.) The players at my college would spend part of the typical postgame party singing various drinking songs, not a single lyric of which can be printed on this website and downing beer that had spent way too much time (i.e. any time at all) in someone's game shoe and which had, at one point, been funneled down one player's (and I believe this is the medical term for it) butt crack.
2.) When it comes to playing with injuries, rugby players make even football and hockey players look like a bunch of whining crybabies.
Which actually makes this item a little depressing: Former New Zealand rugby captain Tana Umaga struck teammate Chris Masoe with a handbag in a Christchurch bar, prompting witness reports that Masoe then burst into tears.
And I don't know which is the more disheartening fact. That when smacked around with a lady's purse, a presumably intoxicated rugby player cried like a little girl or that when presented the opportunity for a rousing bar fight, another rugby player chose as his weapon ... a lady's purse.
And if that turn of events wasn't bizarre enough, now comes word that a fan has ponied up $19,200 (U.S.) for this slice of rugby history -- you got it, the handbag. I would hope for that amount, he'd get matching shoes.
