I think we've found about the only thing more demoralizing than dropping a four-overtime Stanley Cup playoff game.
And that's staying up into the wee hours of the morning to watch a four-overtime Stanley Cup playoff game, only to miss the game-winning goal because your cable system decided to switch to an infomercial instead.
Versus is investigating some viewers' complaints that instead of seeing Henrik Sedin give the Canucks a 1-0 lead in their best-of-seven series with the Stars after almost 140 minutes of hockey action, the fourth overtime period was replaced in some markets by an infomercial.
In the station's defense, our sources tell us the infomercial -- which would have aired around 3:30 a.m. ET -- did draw better ratings than Game 1 of Canucks-Stars.
EDITOR'S NOTE: The insinuation that more viewers watched an infomercial than Game 1 of a Stanley Cup playoff series was intended as satirical comment on the dwindling popularity of professional hockey and not as a statement of fact. Granted, that doesn't mean it ISN'T true, only that we are unable to verify it at present time.
