Ahmad Rashad should consider himself officially warned -- apparently, impersonating a journalist is a crime.
And now that we think about it a little longer, we're suddenly a wee bit nervous ourselves here at the Weird World of Sports.
But all kidding aside, impersonating a member of the Fourth Estate is just one of the charges currently facing an 18-year-old New York Mets fan from Suffolk County. According to prosecutors, Ryan Leli told Mets management he worked for NBC Universal and showed a fake employee identification card so he could get press credentials to an Aug. 10 game between the Mets and the San Diego Padres.
If convicted of the slew of charges he currently faces, Leli could face up to seven years in prison.
Now, if he had attempted a similar stunt in Kansas City, we firmly believe that he could have petitioned to have the roughly three hours he spent at a Royals game credited as time already served.
