The Billy Gillispie Train keeps chugging right along in Lexington and now its picked up even more steam with announcement that Mason County star Darius Miller is going to attend the University of Kentucky starting in 2008.
The 6-6 Miller picked the Cats over Louisville (nice defense guys), Tennessee, and Illinois. He's expecting to man the swing position when he arrives next fall. So far, this puts the Cats' 2008 recruiting haul at two with Chicago's Deandre Liggins joining Miller in expressing his desire to play for UK.
To facilitate the Darius Miller process, UK just recently hired Tracy Webster (3 days ago from the time of this post) away from the University of Illinois. Miller indicated Webster had a big part to do with his interest in the Illini.
According to the latest Prep Stars report (a paid service), Miller is ranked 14th in the nation for incoming senior basketball players. Rivals has him ranked 45th.
Miller's commitment is the seventh for Gillispie since he took over for Tubby Smith in April. The list includes Patrick Patterson, Alex Legion, Deandre Liggins, Dakotah Euton, KC Ross-Miller, and GJ Vilarino.
The more Gillispie's recruiting tentacles take hold of the prep basketball community, the more the UK fanbase will finally stop whining about recruiting woes, woes that were overblown leftovers from Tubby's tenure.
At least, one hopes so.
Guess what folks? Big Blue Madness isn't that far away. Can you feel it?
Until later, GBB!
Update: The story of Miller's commitment was broken by Matt Jones over at KentuckySportsRadio, a fact CatPause.com (one the primary UK forums) doesn't seem to want to acknowledge. I've never understood why so many of the established recruiting services act their information is worth paying for while the free information that many times is just as accurate, isn't fit for consumption. Folks, this is the Internet. You cannot keep information like this hidden behind subscriber-only walls for very long at all. Get used to it.
Anyway, here's another pic of Darius (courtesy of the Matt Jones Experience) just so you all know what's coming to Lexington next season. Enjoy:
