    We're Going World Cup Mad

Thursday, June 8, 2006, 09:26 PM EST [World Cup]

Yes, World Cup fever is even penetrating America. On the eve of the 2006 World Cup, it's almost impossible to miss the waves of World Cup coverage. Both Fox Soccer Channel and GolTV are non-stop World Cup-a-rama. But, more importantly, mainstream America is catching on. The Daily Show with Jon Stewart included a World Cup bit. The US newspapers, meanwhile, are mostly filled with positive pieces and interesting articles. For example, the Desert Sun newspaper from Palm Springs, California, published a feel-good story about an England-mad granny. The Denver Post, meanwhile, published an interesting piece on the great divide between mainstream America (between the soccer mad fans, and those who have no clue about the World Cup). I wrote a similar piece about what it means to watch the World Cup in America for EPL Talk Magazine. Download issue two today for free. Cheers, The Gaffer
