    Let the games begin.....Horns #1?

Friday, June 12, 2009, 02:57 PM EST [General]

Down here in Texas...the college football season has officially kicked-off...How do I know that?....Here's one reason:

I been readin' this rag since the early '60s...It is the Holy Bible of all thangz Texas Football created by Dave Campbell and it's in it's 50th year...This thang covers every football team in Texas...High School to pro's (and jus' in case ya don't know..that's a lotta HS football teams, brutha's and sistuh's)...Yup...even 6-man football...and it hit the stands TODAY!!!

After 50 years of doin' this..I rekkin' Campbell should getta free-pass on pickin' Texas to finish #1 in the nation...Oh Yeah...followed by Florida and Oklahoma  and USC...

So...Carry on Lisa, Coach Sooner, Rev, JW, Nola.. etal.,..You have Texas' approval to blog yer bunz off 'bout College Football...

    Grossman signs with Houston...

Thursday, June 11, 2009, 01:41 PM EST [General]

Free-agent Rex Grossman signed with the Houston Texans a few minutes ago and I like the move...They signed him for the minimum ($750K for one year)...Great depth move along with Dan Orlofsky at QB...Very little risk...What with Matt Schaub showing a propensity for fluke injuries in his two season's with H-Town...Good back-up QB...

The Texan's WILL be in the mix this year...write it down....10-6 or 11-5 ...Keep in mind before ya criticize Grossman or Orlofsky...They have a helluva lot better personnel to work with in H-Town than they did in Chicago or Detroit...

Jiovanni Mier...SS outta Bonita High School in LaVerne Cal...

Heard a sound-byte on a local radio station where he was bein' interviewed and he sez..."The Astros told me that they wanna git ridda Tejada..."

Well...that may be true, Jio...butya might wanna keep that to yerself and I doubt that that info was made to be public domain...or repeated...And the last i looked...Miggy wuz hittin' .357...

    Puttin' up the Number's....and Limits...

Friday, June 5, 2009, 01:18 PM EST [General]

Congrats to the Unit fer gittin' #300 yesterday...Lotta thangs hafta happen to hit that HOF mark...

Lotsa pundits don't think we'll see another pitcher hit that mark..I'm not so sure 'bout that...but their have been marks surpassed before that I never thought would be passed...Most notably, to me, was Lou Gehrigs' 2130 consecutive game playing streak and Cal Ripken proved me wrong on that assessment.  I'da lost the farm if I'd bet on that.

Having said that...here's a few that I DON'T thank will be approached and I'll start with Ripkens' 2,632...I doubt that Nolan Ryan's 5,714 K's will be surpassed..Johnson ain't gonna ketch 'im...Nor will anyone pass Pete Rose's 4,256 hit record..And it goes without sayin' that Cy Young (511 career wins) is outta the question.

Nobody will ever have a career lifetime batting average of .367 that Ty Cobb managed to put together and a 56-game hitting streak (DiMaggio) hasn't been remotely approached since he set it over 60 years ago...and you can write-off a .400 batting average in a single season which Teddy ballgame did 'bout the same time Joe D went on his tear...

A cat named Johnny VanderMeer pitched a cupla no-hitters back-to-back in that same era, as well and that's a tuff act to follow...and 7-No-hitters by Ryan appears outta reach..Btw...Da Stevo was at the Dome fer #5 against LA...met Lasorda that day too...Free Tickets..

    Oh...and Aaron's 755 and Maris' 61* appear to be safe as well...Who knows...someday somebody may pass those too...but it ain't happened yet....donnit?
