Oft-traveled goaltender Ty Conklin is on the road again, this time heading to the St. Louis Blues.
Conklin, who over the past four seasons has bounced from Edmonton to Columbus to Buffalo to Pittsburgh and last season to Detroit, should be staying in St. Louis for longer than one year, signing a two-year contract worth $1.3 million per season.
He’ll start next season likely as the backup to Chris Mason, who established himself in the second half of last season as the Blues starter, carrying them to their first playoff appearance since 2004.
Conklin however has managed to resurrect his NHL career over the past two seasons split between Pittsburgh and Detroit, posting a 25-11-2 record with a 2.51 goals-against average, a .909 save percentage and six shutouts with the Red Wings.
Mason will be on the final year of his contract and Blue management obviously see Conklin as potential insurance should Mason either struggle next season or fail to re-sign before next summer.
A good move by the Blues to ensure stability between the pipes next season.
