First of all props to all those who've stopped by and commented on my posts your insite is a joy to read.
Now onto more important things like the Copa de Mundial. I've never been much of a soccer fan. I never played it as a kid, but I did own quite a few soccer games for different game systems. From this you could surmise that my knowledge of the game is very limited. With that said I beleive the U.S. soccer team really does not belong in the World Cup and I thought I heard that they were ranked as high as 5th which I think is rigged. I took an extended lunch yesterday to make sure I caught the match and what I saw was a very novice team taking on skill. Yes I know the US has 12 players with World Cup experience (only second to Sweden), but they looked like they forgot everything they learned in the past. I remember at one point in the game Donovan was leading an attack, he lobs the ball in the box and not one US player made an effort to cut to the ball or even try to maintain possesion. I've watched almost every match and I can tell you that I didn't see Portugal playing like that or even our rival Mexico. Those guys were all out all the time. My opinion is that the US players got it in their head that they are in the "Group of Death" and they've already given up.
That's enough bashing on the US team now it's time to talk about the sport in general. I think Karl Malone and Allen Iverson were soccer players in their former lives with their flopping abilities. I swear on my grandmothers grave I saw a guy jump into the air after someone slide tackled (and missed) and started rolling on the ground like a sniper shot him in the back. True soccer fan, can you tell me why this is? I have yet to see a collision or tackle that warranted such an act of agony. Although I did see a goalie get kicked square in the ribs going for the ball. OUCH!!! That's gotta sting.
One thing I was glad to see was the reception of the Iranian team. It's good to see that world opinion of that lunatic is the same as mine.
