Why the Red Sox Never Say Die

Friday, October 17, 2008, 04:31 PM EST [ALCS]

If you missed game 5 of the ALCS last night, then you missed one of the best baseball games in playoff history.  Down by 7 runs late in the game, the Sox mounted one of the greatest comebacks...ever!  Their season was on the line and they didn't fold.  Even after giving up 7 runs, when everything should have been over, the magic could not be ignored.

If you watched the game, you could probably feel it yourself.  That magic of Fenway Park and the fans all on their feet willing their team to victory.  It was an energy which I haven't witnessed in sports since...hell I can't ever remember feeling such energy.  And I was watching from my living room!!  Pedroia, Drew, Big Papi, all chipped in when everything was down.  We've seen this before.  The Red Sox made that great comeback against the Yanks to get in the Series.  Everytime they're supposed to be done, something clicks.  Something is turned on and something special happens.

I'm not going to go out and say the Red Sox will win this series.  I think the Rays best chance of winning the whole thing was last night with Kazmir on the mound.  One more inning is probably all it would have taken.  He was pulled after 6 solid innings of shut-out ball.  Dice-K is good, but shaky.  Everyone's nervous when he's on the mound and the early innings proved the reason.  Now, the Rays have to take on Beckett and Lester over the next two games.  They rolled the dice and started Kazmir instead of Shields and they rolled snake eyes.

I think the Sox have been re-energized.  Even though the series moves to Tampa you can't help but think that Boston will win this thing.  Last night's game was an amazing thing to watch.  The best part is it's not over yet.
