The New York Jets took it to the Arizona Cardinals despite the heavy burden of the NFL's most atrocious throwback uniforms seen last weekend.
Arizona was never really in the game, as Kurt Warner seemed to hand the Jets victory over and over by consistently turning the ball over during a relentless pass rush.
Brett Favre threw for 6 touchdown passes, but the big story might be the chemistry developing between the quarterback and his receivers. Coles had three touchdowns and caught ten passes. He had caught only eight passes in the first three games this season.
I think Brett will hang out in NJ during the bye-there is still a lot of work to be done, and now the team is showing some promise.
Speaking of showing promise, Bryan Thomas and Calvin Pace and Sean Ellis each had a sack yesterday, David Bowens had two. Kris Jenkins had another great day stuffing the middle and applying pressure to Kurt Warner while allowing others to bask in the glory of the sacks. Jenkins should go to the pro bowl if he can stay healthy.
Speaking of Bryan Thomas, he leads the team in sacks with 4 so far this season. My favorite player on defense (David Harris) leads the team with 31 tackles so far.
The Jets held the Cards to 42 yards rushing but gave up an alarming 426 yards passing playing a prevent defense most of the time. Bill Parcells has said that the only thing a prevent defense does is to prevent a team from willing.
No sign of Justin Miller yesterday-again. He has been absent for most of this season and I wonder if he will even be on the team next year. I wouldn't be surprised if he was traded for a high draft pick.
After the bye, the Jets face Cincinnati, Oakland and Kansas City. They have a real good shot at 5-2 by the time they face off against Buffalo in week 9.
