I was so happy when I heard that the Yankees were eliminated while watching the Monday night football game this past week.
Now, on sports radio all we are hearing about is what is going to happen in the Yankees front office with a controlling owner, a GM who is contradicting the owner, a manager who has had success with the largest pay-roll in MLB history and was a sub- .500 manager before he got there, and the players who are considering leaving because said sub-par manager is going to be shown the door after three consecutive playoff flops. All I have to say about that is "YIPPEE!!!"
As a Yankee hater, and have been a hater for years. With the team outspending an entire league and packing their line-up with all-star after all-star, and they still can't win a playoff series. This is great. Now the New York media is looking for somone to pin this on, and bet your bottom dollar it is going to be A-Rod, even though he did go Mr. April on everyone this year, he isn't the only one to blame.
Derek Jeter had a terrible post-season, Jorge Posada didn't perform in the clutch, Johnny Damon was struggling when it matered the most.
Don't blame this on Torre, it isn't his fault that these so called "clutch" players, folded like the Buffalo Bills in a Super Bowl. These players performed poorly and and the only scape goat they can find is Torre, even though management won't confront any of the players for fear of losing these players.
So they are going to bring in a manager in Don Mattingly who is the exact same perons as Joe Torre, if you do this, you will get the same results. The Yankees need a manager to give the players a swift kick in the ass.
Tony La Russa would be the best manager fo the Yankees because he will get into players faces and hold them accountable for their actions or lack of actions. The Yankees don't have anyone who will tell each player what to do because every player on the Yankees has an ego and don't like to be told what to do.
But, since the recent comment by closer Mariano Rivera, The Yankees will probably keep Joe Torre simply to keep the Sandman around. Why screw your bull-pen whe you could have the same results as you have had for the last 5 years.
The Yankees will retain Torre and next yeaqr we will have the same conversation next October when the Yankees scrape into the playoffs and are eliminated in the first round again.
