We all remeber what happened last week when the Texas Rangers, did something that goes beyond a complete thrashing when they stomped the Baltimore Orioles 30-3, and we just finished the anti-blowout fest that is the Little league World Series.
All I have to say is what is wrong with a blowout or as some people call it "running up the score"? I have absolutely no problem with this.
I play sports and through the years and I have had many a whooping layed on me, and I have never felt bad about myself. It doesn't mean I am a bad player, it just means they are better than I am, and that is fine with me. Losing by big margins builds character amongst people. With our socitey that says people should not feel bad about yourselves and when they give trophy's for participating, it just makes me think, where have we gone wrong? Then you have rules in high school football that says if you win by more than 60 points then your coach gets suspended. Let Them Play!!
Don't celebrate mediocraty when people are young, because that won't happen when they are older, you are hurting your kids more than helping them. By coddleing them then you make them think that everything they do should be celebrated. It's the equivalent of taking a poop and then showing someone what you did. Let the blowouts begin, and let the kids develop thick skin and a sense of competition.
Just a thought,
Mark
