Join me Sunday at 9am ET (6am PT) "Inside The Swollen Dome" on Blogtalkradio.com. I'll discuss the match-ups of Week 7, take your lineup calls and recap the big injuries that are impacting fantasy owners.
My colleague, John Halpin, joins me from Las Vegas (poolside, no doubt) to offer his thoughts on the weekend's activities.
Join me tomorrow on Blogtalkradio.com when Derrick Deese, Super Bowl champion with the 49ers and a co-host of "Game Time Sunday" on FOX Sports Radio, calls in to break down the good, bad and ugly of Week 4 and sets the table for Week 5.
Deese is always entertaining and isn't one to mince words. Come "Inside The Swollen Dome."
Rashard Mendenhall savored the thought of his first NFL start in Week 4 against the Ravens on a Monday night. He reportedly sent a text message to Ray Rice, rookie tailback of the Ravens, to say that he was going to have a big night. Mendenhall denied sending the message, but the sentiment was no less true.
Unfortunately, Mendenhall's night was cut short when he left with a shoulder injury. Coach Mike Tomlin addressed Mendenhall's injury in his post-game comments and revealed that the rookie tailback had sustained a cracked bone in his shoulder and will be placed on injured reserve. That's a huge blow to a team that is already playing without starter Willie Parker, who was sidelined because of a knee injury. We had just started to see Mendenhall build momentum with a nice 12-yard run prior to the injury. He left the game with 30 rushing yards on nine carries, adding one reception for six yards.
Backup Carey Davis picked up 15 yards on eight carries before injuring his ankle and retreating to the locker room. That left Mewelde Moore as the last man standing for the Steelers. Moore didn't find much running room against the Ravens, amassing just 13 yards on eight carries (including a loss of four yards when he and Ben Roethlisberger collided on a handoff). However, Moore's nifty work in the passing game helped seal the deal for the Steelers at home. He caught three passes for 37 yards.
What does this all mean for Week 5? Go out and claim Mewelde Moore. Willie Parker is still recovering from his knee injury and may be held out of Week 5 to give him an extra two weeks to recover with a Bye on tap for Week 6.
Other players to seek out on the wire are Steve Slaton (he shouldn't be there, but just might have slipped under the radar), Correll Buckhalter (Brian Westbrook is still a huge question mark for Week 5), Deuce McAllister (who rumbled for 73 yards and a score in his triumphant return) and Rudi Johnson (tops the Detroit depth chart).
Look for my Fantasy Six-Packs , a column devoted to six potential pick-ups for Week 5 at QB, RB, WR and TE on Tuesday.
With 255 more games to be played, I believe I'm still OK to post my playoff predictions for the 2008 NFL season. I'm on a couple of dark horse picks, and ultimately revised this list several times before settling on my 12-team field.
Join me tonight as I begin breaking down this weekend's match-ups and recap the horror of the 16-7 home victory for Eli Manning and the Giants.
You can call-in LIVE from 10:30pm PT - 11:30pm PT and have your say about the week ahead. Ask your lineup questions, recap your drafts, vent about the QB and RB quandaries that pervade your roster.
Come see what's rattling around "Inside The Swollen Dome."
