Week 13 & Don't You Wish The NCAA Season Continued?

Saturday, December 1, 2007, 09:59 PM EST [Ricky Williams, Tony Romo, Wee]

The final game of Week 12 of the NFL season featured the return of Ricky Williams to the gridiron against the Steelers. I was impressed with his early run for a first down, but we didn't get to see much more, as Williams left the game with a torn pectoral muscle after just six carries. Williams finished the game with 15 yards. He's already undergone surgery and will look to return to the field in 2008.

The loss of Williams was just another page in a long, miserable season filled with close calls for the Dolphins. In the end, Miami fell to the heavily-favored Steelers by three points. This week, they'll look to score their first win in a very winnable game (well, you get the idea) against the Jets, who will play without Jerricho Cotchery. I was excited about his prospects for this game early in the week, but his status was downgraded by the day.

One of the other huge stories for Sunday is the return of Adrian Peterson to the mix. His role and the split with Chester Taylor remains to be seen, but I don't believe that the Vikings would risk their star back for a shot at a 6-6 record. If he's in the game, he's ready to shoulder a heavy load.

The Bears face the enigmatic Giants. The Browns and Cardinals face off in a battle between one of the game's surprise teams and a team that continues to confound us. The Bengals travel to Pittsburgh for more weather fun (snow is forecast for that one), and the week ends with the Ravens hosting New England. Tom Brady owners are hoping for a "bounce-back" from his single-touchdown effort of Week 12.

It promises to be another fun and exciting day of action, filled with more twists and turns to keep us shaking our heads.

Join me on FOX Sports Radio on Sunday morning from 10am-12pm ET (7am-9am PT) as the Thompson brothers and I talk about the latest news and injury updates, and offer our thoughts on lineup quandaries afflicting owners in this critical set of games.

    See ya then!

    ------------------------------------------------------

The NCAA Football season has been fraught with upsets and surprises at every turn. With bids for the national title game on the line, unlikely No. 1 and No. 2 BCS contenders Missouri and West Virginia stumbled against Oklahoma and Pittsburgh, respectively. The Tigers were manhandled by the Sooners in the Alamo Dome by a count of 38-17. The Mountaineers lost a low-scoring affair to the Panthers and the recently extended Dave Wannstedt 13-9.

The No. 1 and No. 2 teams fell in back-to-back weeks to end a strange and oftentimes maddening season.

The Ohio State Buckeyes will get a chance to redeem themselves for last season's title game debacle. Their opponent remains to be seen, but it stands to reason that the LSU Tigers (winners of the SEC Title with a win over Tennessee) will leap conference mates Georgia for a shot at the Buckeyes.

Will LSU's late stumble against the Razorbacks and possible Heisman winner Adrian McFadden stay in the minds of voters?

It was unlike any other college football season that I've ever seen. Every week, there were two or three results that left you scratching your head and hoping that a replay was available if you happened to forget to set the DVR. I mean, nobody wanted the No. 2 slot!

I can't wait to watch the BCS match-ups revealed on Sunday. It'll be a fun month of flip-flopping picks and trying to look through the haze of the Magic 8-Ball to determine the end of the wild and wacky campaign.

    Good times.
