Even with the beginning of spring training games this week, the highlight shows and news wires continue to demonstrate the dominance of the 800 lb. gorilla called the National Football League. Free agency and trading began, and several hundred players began to seek new deals.

Drew Bledsoe, Ahman Green, Fred Smoot, Eric Moulds,  Nate Clements, Adalius Thomas, Donte' Stallworth, and a host of other players are seeking employment elsewhere.

Fans in Pittsburgh and New Orleans are incredulous that Joey Porter and Joe Horn will not be wearing those uniforms in the fall.

In Baltimore, Jamal Lewis has been released, but is expected to be brought back into the fold.

We saw Tatum Bell dealt to Detroit as they seek a replacement for the injured Kevin Jones.

Another rumored Denver deal is supposedly off, as quarterback Jake Plummer will reportedly retire instead of accepting a deal to the Buccaneers. This announcement fuels speculation about Jeff Garcia possibly joining the Broncos as a backup to Jay Cutler, although a return to the Bay Area and a starting role with the Raiders near his hometown seems more likely. Garcia would serve as a solid veteran link while the team allows JaMarcus Russell to develop for a year.

In any event, the countdown to draft day has begun. In the coming weeks, we'll see a slew of players don new duds and the next crop of NFL studs find a home.
