Opening Day, Part III: Tie Game on Perez HR, Sabathia Update

Sunday, April 2, 2006, 07:33 PM EST [Major League Baseball, Opening]

The Indians got even with the Sox on the strength of a Victor Martinez double to score Travis Hafner as a Tadahito Iguchi relay throw bounced over A.J. Pierzynski's outstretched glove. The plate at the plate would have been interesting, as the throw would have beaten Hafner by a good 4-5 steps. Eduardo Perez followed with a HR to the left-field bullpen off of Buehrle on an inside cut fastball. That got the game tied at three.

Buehrle got two ground ball outs to complete the inning.

The skies opened up in Chicago and a lightning show began, prompting the ground crew to bring out the tarps.

A quick update on the condition of C.C. Sabathia, who left in the bottom of the third. Initially, it appeared that there was a possible shoulder injury. The latest update has Sabathia out with an abdominal strain. He'll be re-examined on Monday.

That's it for now. Time to play the waiting game until action resumes.
