What A Rush! The Good, Bad and Ugly After Week 3

Monday, September 24, 2007, 01:49 PM EST [Fantasy Football, NFL, Week 3,]

It's been a wild and wacky three weeks of NFL action with one game left on the slate. Yes, we're anxiously awaiting a battle between second-year stars Vince Young and Reggie Bush. Fans and fantasy owners continue to wait for the New Orleans Saints to show flashes of the explosive offense that electrified crowds and the stats pages last year. Could this be the night? Owners who bought high on Bush, Drew Brees and Marques Colston certainly hope so.

And who will run the ball for Tennessee? Is it a LenDale White night? Or does Week 1 hero Chris Brown roll again?

Through three weeks, we've seen some great performances from veteran quarterbacks. Tom Brady leads the way with 10 touchdown passes, making fast friends with off-season acquisition Randy Moss (five scores). Brett Favre, Jake Delhomme and Donovan McNabb have all had huge days.

But a number of our fantasy heroes aren't performing up to expectations. While we all thought that there would be some long days for Larry Johnson, nobody could have possibly expected three miniscule efforts to open the year. Steven Jackson hasn't found the end zone yet as St. Louis struggles. And, LaDainian Tomlinson has three total touchdowns, but that offense just isn't functioning properly right now (Philip Rivers' three touchdown passes notwithstanding).

Most of our fantasy receivers got off to fast starts, but it slowed in Week 3. Steve Smith was shut down. Javon Walker had two catches for seven yards. Lee Evans caught a single pass for seven yards.

The defending NFC Champions are in disarray, beset by injuries and inconsistency at quarterback.

Ahh, I love the ebb and flow of the NFL season.

Each week, a new set of heroes emerges. We saw Kurt Warner rise against the Ravens. We saw Vincent Jackson live up to our expectations with a big game against the Packers. And, our rookie class is playing like tested veterans. Marshawn Lynch, Brandon Jackson and, of course, Adrian Peterson and Calvin Johnson continue to impress.

And next week, we'll add to the breakout list. Keep watching, it's going to be a fun ride.
