Can Joe DiMaggio's mark be broken? If so, by whom?

Monday, May 15, 2006, 06:19 AM EST [Fantasy Baseball, Barry Bonds,]

Barry Bonds' pursuit of the All-Time HR Record has me thinking about records and MLB history. You can certainly debate where he and his accomplishments will stand at the time of his retirement. And, of course, many people have been doing so for years.

I'm turning my head to another mark that gets some love in the press every couple of seasons. Today marks the anniversary of the start of Joe DiMaggio's remarkable 56-game hitting streak.

Jimmy Rollins gave us a thrill early this season, but fizzled out short of 40 games.

Is there someone in Major League Baseball today that can break this mark?

Is it Ichiro? Do we immediately tag Pujols as a possibility?

    What do you think?
