In a stunning but unanimous decision the BBWAA has voted 46 year old Philadelphia Phillies lefty Jamie Moyer National League Rookie Of The Year.  Moyer the crafty lefty of 45 years was shocked, considering his career began over 22 years ago. 

When Moyer was asked what this award meant to him he answered, "Well this certainly makes up for my crappy 1986 season, but what the hey I'll take it." 

When 78 year old veteran baseball writer Larry Shaft of Houston was questioned as to why he and his fellow colleagues would select a 46 year old vet of 22 seasons, Shaft with his breath ripe full of Tennessee Whiskey said, "You see we all got together and watched that movie the rookie with Dennis Quaid and it was very inspiring so we thought Moyer was deserving of the award."

This marks the first time the BBWAA has selected a Rookie of the Year of this age since 1989 when "born again" Cleveland Indians pitcher Eddie Harris took home the award.  Writers at that time took into account Harris' born again status, making him the youngest pitcher to win the award at age one.

Though the controversy didn't end there, as Harris responded to criticism of his selection by asking, "Are you tryin' to say Jesus Christ can't hit a curveball?" 

Moyer went 17-6 in 2008 with an ERA of 3.71 and 123 strikeouts.
