    Oh what a feeling?

Wednesday, August 22, 2007, 04:39 PM EST [General]

With Dave Blaney's sixth-place finish and an eighth-place effort from Brian Vickers, Toyota placed two cars in the top 10 Tuesday in the rain-delayed Michigan race -- in the shadow of Motown, no less.

The Toyota engines have been refined along the way all season, and are starting to show progress. So much so that Dave Blaney is No. 12 in this week's Power Rankings.

What do you think? Has Toyota raised its game? Can a driver of a Camry compete with the big boys? Will we see a Toyota driver win a race this season? If not this season, ever?

Let us know what you think.

    Tony's time

Wednesday, August 15, 2007, 06:33 PM EST [General]

Tony Stewart was the opportunist at Watkins Glen, picking up his third win in four races after applying heat to Jeff Gordon. Stewart sits fourth in the points standings, up one spot from last week but still 445 points behind the leader Gordon.

However, Lee Spencer says Smoke's recent run earns him the No. 1 slot in this week's Power Rankings.

With the race at The Glen the last road race of the season, drivers can now gear up for the final ovals before the Chase for the Nextel Cup.

Can Stewart come away with another win? Will Gordon rebound after the disappointing finish? How will the return of crew chief Chad Knaus affect Jimmie Johnson? Can Martin Truex Jr. continue a solid sophomore season?

    Big week for Busch boys

Tuesday, August 7, 2007, 08:39 PM EST [General]

Kurt Busch turned in a dominant performance Sunday in winning the Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway. In the process, he moved past Dale Earnhardt Jr. into 12th place in the Nextel Cup standings, grabbing (at least temporarily) the final spot in the Chase.

Kyle Busch finished 12th in the race on Sunday, staying in eighth place in the standings. But Kyle made news Monday when it was announced he'd be joining Joe Gibbs Racing next year, as he had previously announced he'd be leaving Hendrick Motorsports.

Both Busch brothers figure prominantly in this week's Power Rankings.

What do you think? Will Kurt keep his Chase spot? Will Kyle thrive at JGR along side Tony Stewart and Denny Hamlin? Let us know what you think.

    Has JPM impressed?

Tuesday, July 31, 2007, 08:15 PM EST [General]

When Juan Pablo Montoya won his first Nextel Cup rance the last time the tour came through the Poconos, many people chalked it up to his road-racing pedigree and dismissed the notion that he'd get a win on an oval this season.

Then came Sunday's second-place finish in the Brickyard 400 in Indianapolis. On the strenght of that, he's fifth in this week's Power Rankings.

Does this mean Montoya's figured out the oval courses? Will he be a threat every week now? Will he win on an oval this season? And can he make the Chase?

    Talkin' 'bout teams

Wednesday, July 25, 2007, 08:16 PM EST [General]

With no Nextel Cup Series race this past weekend, we decided to forego our normal Power Rankings routine and focus on the owners.

Joe Gibbs showed his stuff a couple of weeks ago when he showed up at Chicagoland to set things straight between squabbling JGR drivers Tony Stewart and Denny Hamlin. It seemed to work, as Stewart won the ensuing race, his first of the season.

Rick Hendrick has seen all four of the drivers in his charge win races this year, and has Dale Earnhardt Jr. coming aboard next season.

Richard Childress has three top-10 drivers racing for him. Jack Roush has shown the business smarts to partner with the Boston Red Sox ownership. DEI has merged with Ginn Racing.

What do you think about the current group of Nextel Cup owners? Who's the best? Who's the worst? What would like to see them do differently?
