Hey, it's still baseball season! In many fantasy leagues, today's Tigers-Twins game (5:07 p.m. ET) counts toward your standings. If you're still trying to get some last-minute stats, here's what to look for:

Starting pitchers

Rick Porcello (owned in 28.3 percent of FOXSports.com leagues) vs. Scott Baker (64.7 percent owned)

I think Porcello is much more likely than Baker to get shellacked, so keep that in mind if you could lose any ERA and WHIP points. However, if you're thinking about picking up anyone at this point, you're probably not trying to play things safe.

Possible pickups

(Note: Today's starting lineups have not yet been named, so while players named below will probably play, there are no guarantees.)

Tigers: Closer Fernando Rodney is owned in 61.3 percent of leagues, so

I'll be hosting my final live chat of the regular season today at 3 p.m. ET. I want lots and lots of questions, and you should send them now to beat the rush.

Who's off: Nobody, and we've got two doubleheaders: Pirates-Cubs and White Sox-Indians

First pitch: The Bucs-Cubbies twinbill starts the NL day at 2:05, while the White Sox and Indians are on tap at 4:05. Here's the full schedule.

Pitcher to start: The record stood at 96-92 Monday morning, and since then:

We're at 97-95, and tonight we'll go back to Colorado's Jason Hammel (5.2 percent owned) against

The Twins and Tigers start a four-game series today in Detroit, with the Tigers ahead of the Twins by two games. Who else sees a 12-for-18, four-homer effort coming from Joe Mauer? I think I'd walk him every time if I was the Tigers.

Who's off: Mariners, A's, Cubs, Brewers, Reds, Cardinals, Padres, Rockies, Giants, Diamondbacks

First pitch: The Dodgers and Pirates get the NL day off to an early start at 12:35 p.m. ET, while we've got a trio of AL games at 7:05. Here's the full schedule.

Pitcher to start: Since we last left you with a 93-90 record:

Our long national nightmare is over. After an excruciatingly long one-year absence, the New York Yankees clinched a postseason berth last night. I hope you didn't light any cars on fire during your local celebration.

Who's off: Nobody

First pitch: The Yanks and Angels get NL action underway at 3:35 p.m. ET, while the National League schedule begins with a pair of games at 7:05. Here's the full schedule.

Pitcher to start: And you thought I was crazy to pick David Purcey on Monday. His strong outing, followed by another decent effort from Jeff Niemann, have us at 93-90 for the season. The champagne to celebrate an over-.500 season isn't on ice yet, but it's definitely been purchased.

Tonight, we'll go with Rays' rookie Wade Davis (1.9 percent owned), who tossed a four-hit shutout

Every preseason, I write a prediction for every team that tries to step out on at least a little bit of a limb. This year, my Cubs' prediction was: "Milton Bradley will appear in fewer than 110 games." On Sunday, the Cubs suspended Bradley for the rest of the season, basically because they were sick and tired of his attitude. Most of his teammates sounded happy to see him go, and the Cubs will apparently try to trade him even if they have to eat much of the $21 million remaining on his contract.

Bradley appeared in 124 games, but I'd like to petition for an exception to my prediction. With a .257 batting average, 12 homers and 40 RBI, he definitely put up less than 110 games worth of production, and I was correct in trying to steer him away from fantasy owners. What do you think - can

Daisuke Matsuzaka returned to the mound for the Red Sox last night for the first time in almost three months, He threw six shutout innings, and has the Red Sox considering him as their No. 4 starter in the playoffs.

I didn't watch the game, but even when Matsuzaka seems to pitch well, he has control issues that portend future problems. Even though he was 18-3 with a 2.90 ERA last year, as someone who spent last season as a proud Dice-K fantasy owner, I knew this year had the potential to be a disaster, because he didn't throw nearly enough strikes to remain effective. Dice-K walked three batters last night, and here's how the balls and strikes broke down:

  • September 16: 55.9 percent strikes (52 strikes, 41 balls)
  • 2009 overall: 62.7 percent strikes
  • 2008: 60.7 percent strikes

Charliie Manuel didn't waste much time giving Brad Lidge another save opportunity, did he? And he got the save too ... kind of. I wonder if it's possible for a team to feel any less comfortable with a 6.5-game lead in its division.

Who's off: Red Sox, White Sox, Royals, Mariners, Mets, Nationals, Phillies, Braves

First pitch: We've got a trio of AL games at 7:05 p.m. ET, while the Astros and Reds begin the NL day five minutes later. Here's the full schedule.

Pitcher to start: Since we last left you with an 84-83 record on Wednesday ...

Phillies' manager Charlie Manuel has stuck by Brad Lidge all year long - stubbornly so, if you ask some people. But last night, Lidge might have finally run out of chances.

Lidge was yanked in the ninth inning after loading the bases with a hit, a hit batsman and a walk, and Ryan Madson was summoned to clean up the mess. After the game, Manuel didn't commit to any changes, but he didn't exactly sound as beholden to Lidge as he usually does. Even though Madson got last night's save, Brett Myers (owned in 45.2 percent of FOXSports.com leagues) looms as a potential ninth-inning replacement for Lidge. I guess you can't cut Lidge just yet, but if you're looking to speculate on saves for the final few weeks, I think Myers is your guy.

Who's off: Nobody

First pitch: The Rangers and Indians

Slight change of plans, folks - I've got the day off Monday, so I'll be blogging about baseball only on Wednesday next week (along with football on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday). How's this: I promise to tweet more baseball news, including spot starter selections on the weekdays I don't post a blog entry, for those who follow me on Twitter at @jhalpin37. Deal?

FRIDAY

First pitch: We've got 7:05 p.m. ET starts in both leagues. Here's a full schedule.

Pitcher to start: I guess you never want the starter on the short end of an 18-10 score, like Derek Holland was on Monday. Oh, well. We're 80-82.

Tonight, let's take the very underrated Jeff Niemann (30.1 percent owned), even if he is matched up against Justin Verlander.

SATURDAY

First pitch: Yanks-Jays starts the AL day at 1:07 p.m. ET,

Mets 3B David Wright will return to action against the Rockies on Tuesday after missing a couple of weeks with a concussion. A Met is actually coming off the DL? I think this qualifies as one of the top 10 stories of the season.

Who's off: Red Sox, Indians, Phillies, Mets, Cardinals, Brewers, Giants, Rockies

First pitch: The Rays and Tigers get the AL day going at 1:05 p.m. ET, while the Pirates and Reds play the first game of their doubleheader at 1:10. Here's the full schedule.

Pitcher to start: It was a big weekend for our picks, with John Smoltz, Max Scherzer, Ian Snell and Ross Ohlendorf all meeting at least two of our four criteria for a fantasy quality start. We're up to 80-81, but not going to get cocky just yet.

Tonight, we'll go with Rangers' rookie lefty Derek
