Big deals of the day: West Ham's stunning two-fer swoop that saw the middling  team snag Argentines Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano from brazil's Corinthians. Interestingly, the investment group that owns Corinthians, MSI, a London-based fund, made a bid last year to acquire the Hammers. West Ham is set to pay some $60m+ for the pair. Wow.

Manchester City has taken DaMarcus Beasley on season-long loan from PSV Eindhoven. Claudio Reyna will now have someone to pass the ball to. Andy Cole ditched Citeh for Pompey earlier in the day.

Arsenal, which was linked yesterday with Tevez, got the guy they wanted last season in a swap with Real Madrid. Jose Reyes was traded for Brazil's Julio Baptisa for the year, giving Thierry Henry yet another chance to fail to build a working parternership up top. Arsenal is also said to be acquiring William Gallas and cash in a deal that moves the wantaway Ashley Cole  to Chelsea, but there was no confirmation at the deadline. The Gunners let Pascal Cygan go to Villareal, which is a win-win situation for both teams.
