I checked the Western Conference standings this morning:
1. Houston Rockets 46-20 0.697 0.0 games back of 1st place
2. L.A. Lakers 45-21 0.682 1 game back of 1st place
3. New Orleans 44-21 0.677 1.5 games back of 1st place
4. Utah 44-24 0.647 3.0 games back of 1st place
5. Phoenix 44-22 0.667 2.0 games back of first place
6. San Antonio 44-22 0.667 2.0 games back of first place
7. Dallas 44-23 0.657 2.5 games back of 1st place
8. Golden State 41-24 0.631 4.5 games back of 1st place
9. Denver 40-26 0.606 6.0 games back of 1st place
#1 seed Houston has 46 wins. #2 seed Los Angeles has 45 wins.
The #3 through #7 seeds all have 44 wins.
How CRAZY is that?
* Update
With the Western Conference as tightly compacted as it is, Popovich says it doesn't matter where you end up, as long as you make the playoffs.
"You'd like to have the highest seeding possible, but I really believe there really is no seeding this year," he said. "One through eight, I don't think it matters. The eighth team is not an eight seed, the first team is not a first seed. There aren't going to be any upsets."
