    Mike's Top 32 NFL Teams of 2007

Saturday, August 25, 2007, 01:15 PM EST [Semi Reasonable Sports Talk wi]

Today I'm writing in order who I think will be the worst team, and who I think will be the best team, in the NFL this season.

    32. Oakland Raiders-Even if Russell gets the contract he's asking for, the Raiders will still be the same old Raiders. This team got a new coach, Lane Kiffin (who I have never heard of), so this team still has no shot and the only thing they can do now is hope for huge fan support this year, they need money, and quick.

    31. Houston Texans-Houston lost star QB David Carr to the Panthers, and now they have no starting-caliber QB. They have two bruisers in the backfield, in Green and Gado, but to have a great team, you need to have a good coach, and more importantly, a great QB.

    30. Cleveland Browns-With Quinn or Frye as starter, this team still needs a more high-powered offense and defense, not to mention a good coaching staff. With their new back, Lewis, the Browns will need to step it up on defense if they hope to get out of the Bottom 5.

    29. Minnesota Vikings-This team has lost consistently since the 2004 playoffs, and since that time, they have lost 2 starting QB's, a loud but incredibly soft-handed receiver and their Head Coach. This team has no durability, which is why thy play in a dome.

    28. Tampa Bay Buccaneers-This team was a Super Bowl contender a few years ago. What happened is anyone's guess. This team has still got a few high-powered players, but I think they'd take just about anyone right now.

    27. Miami Dolphins-Miami has had some memorable years, but not this time. This team has been nothing but a disappointment. They have now lost Harrington to thee Falcons, and Culppeper to the, Raiders, I think it is? They have no great players and no great coaches which means, no great success.

    26. Washington Redskins-Mark Brunell has had little success as a starter, I think it's about time to clean house.

    25. Atlanta Falcons-Now that Mike Vick is going to prison, and Harrington is the starter, the Falcons have less of a shot at surviving the South than a snowball has a chance of surviving hell.

    24. Arizona Cardinals-Leinart will not do better this year. it will take all of this year for him to get to know the NFL better. I say that by next year, this team oughta move up about 7 or 8 spaces to about #15 on the chart. Larry Fitzgerald and the new coach, former Offensive Coordinator for the Steelers when they won a Super Bowl, Ken Wisenhunt. they'll be division champs material by the beginning of the 2009 season.

    23. New York Giants-This team has slipped further and further down the charts in the past few years, but shot up last year. This was a case of dumb luck. This year, and every year as long as Coughlin's still Head Coach means lose, lose, lose. He's not the greatest motivator in the world ya know. And he's holding Shockey, and Toomer, and Manning, and Burress back from their full potential. As soon as Tom Coughlin's out of there, then will discuss a division championship.

    22. Buffalo Bills-Losman has not helped this team out since Bledsoe left to be starter in Dallas, (which then got the tables turned on him and he became back-up top Romo, HA!) Anyways, with McGahee gone, this team's running game will suffer, no matter what free agent they pick up.

    21. Tennessee Titans-Vince Young is quite ready to lead the Titans. Maybe not a division championship just yet, but I know that he will get there one day. He has a great coach teaching him in Jeff Fisher. Now, all he's gotta do is reach his full potential. One year won't make you a champ. Maybe not two. Three perhaps. We'll see.

    20. Detroit Lions-This year, we can expect an 8-8 season from this team. If not, then I give up on this team. Kitna should do better for all the trash-talking he's been doing of late. Some players can get away with that, like Joey Porter, LB for the Dolphins. Know why? Because he brings it. Kitna doesn't. Watch your words, Jon. This team shouls have about a million relievers that they've drafted in the past 5 years. Some of them should do decent, right?

    19. Indianapolis Colts-The road to repeat is harder than the road to win the first one. This team will drop many games late in the 4th quarter. Teams will prepare harder against them, and the Colts will fail to capitalize. Manning's won it all, and now his headline days are over.

    18. San Diego Chargers-LT's MVP award last year sparked a flame in San Diego, but it will be doused early by their division rivals, except for the Raiders, of course. Sorry, guys, I gotta put ya way down here on the list.

    17. Baltimore Ravens-Now this pick is not just out of realism, but out of spite. This team didn't deserve a playoff berth last year. I think that the North should have gone to the team who tried the hardest: Pittsburgh. Now, trying the hardest doesn't always transfer into wins, and that applies to this situation. Baltimore has lost their star back and brought in a star from Buffalo, who, mind you, has never made any big headlines. McNair's play will suffer, and Troy Smith won't do anything, leading this team to a disappointing 10-6 year, and no playoffs.

    16. Seattle Seahawks-Seattle, in my opinion, are just a bunch of whiny babies. And that is exactly why they will lose this year. The division goes to the Rams.

    15. Green Bay Packers-The Packers will upgrade on their offensive squad and should have no problems going 9-7, or maybe even 10-6 this year. As soon as Favre makes room for Rodgers, this team will be able to safely talk about a wild card berth again, and maybe even a division title. We'll just have to wait and see.

    14. Philadelphia Eagles-This team will lose a key game to Dallas and that may be what costs them the playoffs. They have no more Jeff Garcia to take over if McNabb gets injured again, so this team will slip and slide and super-glide right out of playoff contention.

    13. Kansas City Chiefs-After losing last year to the defending champion Colts, this team has got no choice but to repeat and do better. I really don't see that happening, though. I say that they just miss the playoffs, because New York wins their game, and makes it instead.

    12. San Francisco 49ers-San Fran will lose in the first round of the playoffs. This team will perform, but when it comes down to it, they will lose. Gore, Smith and Jackson need maybe another year to get to know each other better.

    11. New York Jets-Eric Mangini cam out of nowhere last year and lead this team to the playoffs. We can expect another wild-card berth every year as long as he's coach and New England's on top of the East. As soon as someone can knock them off their perch, the Jets will take over.

    10. Cincinnati Bengals-Cincy has looked better in the past couple years, and this year, Palmer looks to be better than ever before. A strong wide-out corps, and a strong running game can only mean playoffs for the Bengals.

    9. St. Louis Rams-The West will be personally owned and dominated by the one and only Rams. TBIAH, I know ya know what I'm talking about, man! Bulger's shiny new contract, and Jackson's big bruise-issuing shoulders mean the day has finally come for St. Louis to gain the advantage again.

    8. Chicago Bears-Chicago will lose several key games that will cost them a 1st-round bye. Grossman's stats last year showed that he had 23 TD's and 20 interceptions. He needs to chop that interception rate at least in half.

    7. Jacksonville Jaguars-Jacksonville clobbered the Colts last year, and this year, they will win twice against their South rivals. Leftwich's year is fast approaching. Watch out for the Jags, everyone!

    6. Dallas Cowboys-First round bye this year in the playoffs. Romo will handle the pressure better this year, but will still collapse in the playoffs. The new coach in Dallas (I forget his name) will not do any better than Parcells. Why did he leave, anyways?

    5. New England Patriots-Brady's Super Bowl winning days are long gone. Nobody in Boston can seem to get that through their thick skulls though. Oh well, I guess you'll just have to find out the hard way.

    4. Denver Broncos (AFC Runners-Up)-The Mile-High City will have an extraordinary year and will get into the playoffs and eventually lose to Pittsburgh. Cutler's offense was good last year, and now that he's the undisputed starter, they will be great. I say, watch out for them!

    3. New Orleans Saints (NFC Runners-Up)-Reggie Bush isn't ready to make it to the Super Bowl just yet. Another year and I'll say they are the champs, but until next year, Brees will lead the offense alongside Bush and Colston, as the defense steps it up and makes big plays when they need it. Sean Payton's coaching technique will only improve as the next few seasons get closer.

    2. Carolina Panthers (NFC Champs)-The Panthers will make the division over the Saints and to rub salt in the wound, beat them in the NFC Championship game. Delhomme's high-powered offense will take this team to the top, while the defense continues to help win the games with their smash-mouthed style.

    1. Pittsburgh Steelers (Super Bowl Champs)-New coach and a whole new offensive scheme will set all the defenses in the league oblivious as to what the Steelers are doing this year. Roethlisberger will be much happier with Tomlin as coach. He'll be throwing it more. The Steelers running game has always been strong, no matter what kind of back they got. The defense has lost Joey Porter, but got star ROLB, Lawrence Timmons in the draft. They will be first to win 6 Super Bowls. Overall, this year will be the year that the Steelers are listed as greatest franchise of all time.
