I can't wait for Saturday. It's gonna be great.
The invitations have been sent. The RSVP's have been received. The big screen, HDTV has been polished. The beer has been put on ice. The nachos are ready to be made.
Do you really think the Super Bowl is still over a week away? Well, guess again.
The "real" Super Bowl takes place on Saturday. In Australia. And it features two women: Amelie Mauresmo and Justine Henin-Hardenne battling for the Championship of the World or, as some call it, the Australian Open women's title.
| Does Amelie Mauresmo really hit like a girl? |
Sports moments like these happen only once in a lifetime, or maybe more. It's tough to tell, really. Two brutal competitors facing off, head-to-head, toe-to-toe. Nowhere to hide. Nowhere to run.
So forget about football for a while, and get ready for some tennis. Anybody who's a fan of women's tennis knows all about these two final foes. They don't really like each other ... remember, it was Henin-Hardenne who said Mauresmo hits like a girl.
Those are fighting words!
I remember my grandfather telling me one day when I was a kid that he hoped I would one day see a women's Australian Open final for the ages. He lived into his 70's, but never saw anything that rivaled the hype of this Mauresmo/Henin-Hardenne match.
Right now my house is divided on what the outcome will be. I think Mauresmo will win. My roommate doesn't care. My family hasn't returned my emails. My girlfriend is too busy scanning match.com to answer my question.
I leave you with a question: Who do you think will win this titanic clash? I dare you to pick against Mauresmo. She's just too tough right now. Have you seen her forehand? It's like Jose Canseco in the late '80s, all juiced up.
Get ready for Super Saturday. I can barely wait. Tears are rolling down my face. The time is near. Good luck to all, especially Henin-Hardenne. She's gonna need it.
