Were you among the lucky millions to stand in line for fresh flowers and sweet candy to present to a somehow-surprised significant other later that evening?
Were you among the probably-not-as-unlucky-as-they-think throng of singles who decided to say "to heck with Valentine's Day" and party the night away with others of their kind?
Did you spend the night alone, feeling sorry for yourself, annihilating your sobriety with massive amounts of alcohol?
No matter what you did, you probably weren't in for the magical night that Rufus was treated to.
Rufus was the star of the night, treated to a wild night on the town in glamorous New York City. Rufus made numerous stops, where he frequently posed for photos with his throngs of fans. He later binged on cookies and sipped only the finest champagne from a championship trophy he won earlier in the night.
Guess what ... that crazy Rufus partied like a rock star until 4:30 a.m., even though he needed to be dragged out of bed an hour later to carry on with his life as America's newest celebrity.
Needless to say, Rufus was hung over.
The sad thing about all of this is that Rufus lives better than most of the rest of us.
While Rufus was drinking fine champagne, we were happy with our discounted beer from the local Rite Aid.
While Rufus was posing for countless photographs with fans, we were just happy that somebody, anybody would talk to us.
How many here can say they were the center of attention no matter where they went in the city that never sleeps?
How many here can say they can appear on Good Morning America the day after being just another dog crapping in somebody's backyard?
Yes, Rufus, is not just any dog, but the colored bull terrier that won the Westminster Kennel Dog Show.

Now, unlike you and me, Rufus lives the life of luxury; sipping champagne and rubbing elbows (err, paws) with New York City's elite.
Talk about street cred.
Rather than be jealous of Rufus' success, we should revel in his rags-to-riches story. Rufus was, in fact, just another underdog ("dog," get it?) that beat the heavy favorites to claim a championship.
Doggone it, that's a little something we can all relate to. Right?
