Morning and Afternoon College Basketball Selections - 2/10/2007

Friday, February 9, 2007, 07:05 PM EST [NCAA BB]

Marquette (+7.5) at Georgetown: Although Georgetown's 8-1-1 ATS in its last ten games, that's a function of the public sleeping on them during a great stretch. After Wednesday's big win at Louisville, oddsmakers will be favoring Georgetown, so the Hoyas will have a tougher time covering the larger spreads. Meanwhile, Marquette's been in the spotlight for a while, which explains their 4-5-1 ATS record in their last ten games. Take Marquette in this one because they're 5-2 ATS on the road, compared to Georgetown's 4-4-1 ATS record at home. As long as Marquette's 6'10" F Ousmane Barro can contain 7'2" Roy Hibbert, Marquette should be able to beat the spread.

Arkansas (+3) at LSU: Arkansas' just 4-6 ATS in their last ten, but LSU's even worse at 3-7. LSU's lost six straight games SU (straight-up), and they're just 5-7 ATS at home. Even worse for LSU is the fact that they're just 2-6 ATS after a loss. On the other hand, Arkansas is 6-4 ATS in road games, and they're 6-5-1 ATS following a win (which applies here, as the Razorbacks won their last game).

Oklahoma (-3.5) at Baylor: Oklahomas' been on a roll lately, going 5-0-1 ATS in their last six games, and they have some positive momentum from beating Oklahoma State 67-60 on Wednesday night (not a letdown situation, as the win came at home). Meanwhile, Baylor's just 2-4-1 ATS in their last six games, and they have some negative momentum after losing 58-71 to a beatable Iowa State team. Plus, Oklahoma' 6-4-1 ATS after a win, and they're 7-1-1 ATS against teams coming off a loss (both situations apply here). Baylor's only 3-4 ATS after losing.

Virginia (+4) at Virginia Tech: Virginia's posted seven straight wins SU, and they're 8-2 ATS in their last ten. On the other hand, Virginia Tech has suffered two straight losses SU and ATS, and they're just 5-5 ATS in their last ten games. Virginia is 6-2 ATS on the road, and they're 7-3 ATS after a win. Virginia Tech is just 3-5 ATS at home, and they're 2-4 ATS after a loss. These situational statistics make me highly recommend Virginia with the points.

I'll be back at around 2:00 pm central time tomorrow with the late afternoon and evening NCAA picks, along with my NBA selections.
