    The character debate

Wednesday, April 25, 2007, 09:43 AM EST [Nfl draft ]

If Roger Goodell's laying down the law on Pacman Jones taught us anything heading into the NFL Draft, it's that character counts in the new NFL.

And we're already noticing a difference.

After watching four of their top six picks from the 2006 draft pose for police mug shots, the Cincinnati Bengals are rethinking their long-standing policy of ignoring off-field problems. And our NFL Czar already has a long list of problem children that should be avoided when teams start making their picks (conversely, Adam Schein has a list of "good guys" who should be on your team's draft board).

But Michael Rosenberg thinks the character issue has gotten overblown and that talent is still what matters most to teams ... and their fans.

So we thought we'd see what you thought. How important should character be considered when teams are drafting come Saturday? Should off-field issues take a back seat to talent? Or are fans finally fed up with all the NFL players making appearances on police blotters ... or to be more accurate, fed up to the point where the NFL risks losing their business if changes don't come soon?
