The Youngest Team in the NBA

Wednesday, April 26, 2006, 11:45 PM EST [Steve Nash]

Although it is not mentioned in my "About Me" section, I am a fan of the LA Lakers.  I will admit, it is not to the extent of my favorite football teams, but come playoff time I refuse to miss a game.  The Lakers have quietly, if that's possible for a team in LA, put together a solid season and are now looking as though they are the better team in this first round matchup against Pheonix.

Running the triangle offense, playing solid defense, and relying on the game's best player is something that should seem all too familiar to basketball fans around the country.  While this team is no doubt less talented than the Bulls dynasty of the 90's, Phil Jackson has them playing like a team that can make some serious noise in the postseason.

What many may not realize about the Lakers is that they are the youngest team in the NBA. If the front office can keep this team together, avoid the thoughts of acquiring another big name player, and let this team grow they can become something special.  With Kwame Brown, Lamar Odom, and in the future, Andrew Bynum; the Lakers have the potential to delevop an inside game more dominate than when Shaq was living in Hollywood.

With the series headed back to LA tied 1-1, the Lakers have a distinct advantage over the Suns, both mental and physical. I am not predicting an amazing title run for this Laker team.......yet.  Anytime the youngest team in the NBA can go on the road in the playoffs and pick up a win against a tough team like the Suns, you have to take notice.

Kobe may not be the MVP, but he is the world's best player.  photo
