    That's a wrap from Dallas

Thursday, November 29, 2007, 09:32 PM EST [General]

In retrospect, Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy shouldn't have settled for a field goal.

Dallas was able to run clock while marching downfield in the game's final 5:03. The Cowboys added a field goal with 1:03 left to make it 37-27 and put the game out of reach.

I'm heading to the locker room for a post-game column that will be posted within a few hours. See you then.

Did McCarthy make the right decision?

Thursday, November 29, 2007, 09:17 PM EST [General]

If the Packers lose, Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy might be second-guessed for his decision to attempt a field goal rather than go for it on fourth-and-inches from the Dallas 35. On the bright side for McCarthy, Mason Crosby did make his 52-yard attempt to cut Dallas' lead to 34-27 with 5:03 remaining. But there would be less pressure placed on the Aaron Rodgers-led Packers offense if Green Bay was able to drive for a touchdown on that possession. Dallas also has marched up and down the field all night on the Packers, which means a field goal might not have been enough at that point.

Side note: Green Bay is the NFL's only team not to allow a punt or kickoff return for a touchdown this season. But the Packers have given up too much kickoff return yardage tonight to Miles Austin.

Cowboys don't wast this chance, take 34-24 lead

Thursday, November 29, 2007, 09:04 PM EST [General]

The Cowboys can breathe a little easier.

Dallas didn't waste this scoring opportunity, with Romo completing a four-yard touchdown pass to Patrick Crayton to help give Dallas a 34-24 lead with 7:51 remaining. Key to Dallas' success was tight end Jason Witten (three catches for 37 yards) and a 42-yard pass-interference penalty on Tramon Williams after he became entangled with wide receiver Miles Austin. The foul was controversial, as officials didn't throw a flag until long after the play had ended.

Ware gives Cowboys the football again

Thursday, November 29, 2007, 08:55 PM EST [General]

Cowboys outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware just helped slow Green Bay's momentum, forcing a Packers punt with a third-down sack of Aaron Rodgers. Ware timed the snap perfectly and zoomed around left tackle Chad Clifton, who was clearly upset afterward that an offsides penalty wasn't called.

Side note: Rodgers' string of consecutive completions was snapped at 11, which is nine short of the team record set last week by Brett Favre against Detroit.

Owens' gaffe gives Packers new life

Thursday, November 29, 2007, 08:51 PM EST [General]

No TD for T.O. - and the Dallas wide receiver only has himself to blame.

Tony Romo fired what should have been a six-yard touchdown pass to Terrell Owens early in the fourth quarter, only to have him flub the catch and send the football into the air. Cornerback Al Harris intercepted the ricochet in the end zone for a touchback.

Side note: The play marked Harris' first interception of the season ... With a replay challenge, Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy successfully overturned what was originally ruled a 15-yard sideline catch by Owens.
