Being a woman sports writer is a hard job, especially when you have to deal with gritty hockey players. Writing for the Blackhawks is a harder job especially when you seriously want the team to turn around and win.
The team definitely has the ammunition to succeed with Nikolai Khabibulin, Tyler Arnason, and Mark Bell. But the story written is different; the team is desperate.
Take Bob Foltman's story today in the Chicago Tribune, titled The Young and the Restless. I agree with Bob. It seems that life is a soap opera for the struggling Blackhawks.
But like everyone out there who watches soaps I expect more intrigue, excitment and maybe some story twists in the way. The Blackhawks show none. It is the same old storyline. The record speaks for itself: 49-16-27.
Tonight I watched Bob Foltman on Comcast Sportsnet. His reaction was that of the typical fan. For how long? The Hawks haven't made a strong playoff appearance since 1995.
The Blackhawks face Calgary this Thursday. Will they be able to beat Iginla? Will Tyler Arnason be traded? These and other unanswered questions in the next episode of the Blackhawk saga.
Keep tuned. I'll be there watching practice on Friday.
