Terrell Owens wanted to sign for the Atlanta Falcons in the off-season, but Jim Mora Jr did not want the drama that comes with the controversial wide receiver.  That decision could come back to haunt him on Saturday night when the NFC East-leading Dallas Cowboys visit the Georgia Dome for a pivotal game.  The Cowboys have a one-game lead over the New York Giants and Philadelphia in their division. The Falcons are tied with the Giants and Philadelphia in the battle for two wild-card spots.  Owens, who resides in suburban Atlanta in the off-season, expressed interest in signing with the Falcons after being released by Philadelphia last March.

Mora and Falcons offensive co-ordinator Greg Knapp were assistants under Steve Mariucci in San Francisco when Owens criticised the coaches there.  So Mora and Knapp wanted no part of Owens again, especially after he was banished by the Eagles for conduct detrimental to the team.

Personally, I am not against Terrel Owens.  In fact, I believe for the most part he is simply misunderstood.  More than that, I think he probably has AADHD or is Bi-Polar or something.  I doubt even he knows it.

There is no doubt he is having a better year in Dallas than Ashley Lelie is in Atlanta.  Lelie is the receiver the Falcons picked up during the off season instead of T.O,.   But I wouldn't have wanted to have had to deal with the "Suicide Story" this year.  We have enough controversy following the Falcons between the Vick Lovers and the Vick Haters.

With the emphasis on the running game in Atlanta, that includes Vick's running ability, Owens would probably have fewer receptions with the Falcons anyway.  After all, the Peerless Price era wasn't that impressive.

I like Price.  He won a championship for my Volunteers.  Maybe he had his problems in Atlanta.  But the Michael Vick led offense will never be overly kind to receivers and quite frankly, it shouldn't.  Any coach lucky enough to have Mike on the field would be insane not to maximize the use of his ability to occasionally tuck the ball under his arm and take off.
