Does leading in first downs given up by passing matter?

    Saturday, November 13, 2010, 2:46 AM [NFL]

Currently my Falcons are fifth worse in the NFL in this stat.

In the second half last night we gave up ten. Was it because we had Flacco contained in the first but lost containment in the second? If so, why? What adjustments did Baltimore make?

Six of these passes were short right? What problem does this indicate?

Three of the passes were caught by Boldin. Is he that good or was our coverage of him that bad?

Does Brian Van Gorder get too conservative in the second half allowing teams to make passing first downs, close the gap and take leads against us?

Or does this stat even matter?  The Patriots, Ravens, Steelers, and Titans are all in the bottom 12 in this category.  Is the stat only a reflection of teams with leads giving up more passing 1st downs to desperate teams playing catch up against a Prevent D?

    For those bashing the Heat

    Friday, November 12, 2010, 12:13 PM [NBA]

It's a bit early.  Nothing matters until the playoffs and these guys understand this.

I am starting to realize this more and more in most pro sports.  It's all about positioning yourselves for that playoff run.  Not just the won loss record but how the team plays in certain situations.

I watched it when I got home Wednesday night and th Spurs were playing the Clippers keeping Duncan on the bench as much as possible.  The possibility of losing the game wasn't as important in the long run as seeing how the team could play without Duncan and with Ginobili and Parker and now Jefferson.

With the Falcons last night, while the win was huge and it is great to have the best record in the NFL.  Yeah, Falcons baby!  Still the most important parts of the game were how we won by passing with our strong running game shut down.  It indicates how strong we potentially may be if we can win without our highly ranked running game with our better than average passing game.

On the flip side, Flacco exposed our weakness to giving up first downs and touchdowns with passes.  That has to be fixed or we won't beat anyone in the playoffs.

So, the Heat?  Thes guys are just now getting their feet wet.  They are learning something from each game.  They haven't even started yet.  The first section of the rocket hasn't even been jettisoned yet.

Harvick Powers By Busch In Kroger 250

    Tuesday, March 31, 2009, 10:26 PM [General]

Kevin Harvick powered by Kyle Busch for the lead with 10 laps to go Monday and held on to win the Kroger 250 at Martinsville Speedway.  KHI's Ron Hornaday finished second, and Mike Skinner, Johnny Benson and pole-sitter Rick Crawford rounded out the top five.

Driving his No. 2 Kevin Harvick Inc. Chevrolet, Harvick collected his fourth career Truck Series win in his 97th start in an event that had been postponed because of rain on Saturday.

"I was able to get to his bumper there and just kind of get him up about half a groove and got up under him," said Harvick, who ran the final 185 laps, including one extra lap because of a green-white-checkered finish, on one tank of fuel.

Hornaday, Harvick's teammate, moved up to the second position for the final two-lap shootout, but could not catch Harvick before the race ended under caution.

Hornaday stated, " I will take second, I guess. Busch was up there slowing us down. Kevin had a couple runs on him and Kevin backed up, he was guarding the bottom pretty good which let me catch Kevin then Mike caught me and it was going to be a four truck battle. They threw the yellows. "

Skinner interjected, "...I thought you and I was going to have some old times, you and I was going to have some fun."

Benson may have been lucky to have finished fourth given he was spun out by Hornaday earlier.  Hornaday described it this way wihout apology.

I got in to Benson (Johnny), but he knows why. I spun him around.  I thought I had the spot and he gave me the room and then he didn't like I was there and (I) was there and (I) spun him out."
